In the morning of September 24th, 2012, Tra Vinh University welcomed Mr. Maurice Gallant, the instructor of English Language Centre, VIU, Canada to work at the university. At the first meeting with Mr. Maurice Gallant, there were Mr. Le Van Don – Vice Rector of TVU and representatives of International Collaboration and Project Promotion Office (ICO) and Center of International Collaboration in Education and Training (Cicet).

Mr. Maurice Gallant has experienced in teaching English for 20 years in Canada, China, Japan and Korea. At TVU, he will work with Cicet in the period of 5 weeks to instruct English for TVU students and give training courses on teaching methods for TVU instructors as required.

 

At the meeting, Mr. Le Van Don expressed his gratitude and hoped that Mr. Maurice Gallant practically effective working time at TVU.

On September 14th, 2012, TVU welcomed Prof. Dr.  Ton Vroeijenstijn and delivered a discussion section on quality assurance system and AUN criteria at workshop 4. Welcoming and working with Prof. Dr. Ton Vroeijenstijn, there was Ms. Thach Thi Dan, Vice Rector of TVU, on behalf of TVU Board, departments and staff.

At the meeting, Prof. Dr. Ton Vroeijenstijn introduced and mastered the discussion about the  concerned issues on internal quality assurance system development in accordance with AUN criteria and international development; developing tools for self-assessment and learning how to  gather evidence. Quality assurance is indispensable in the process of higher education quality maintenance and improvements.

On behalf of TVU Board, Ms. Thach Thi Dan, Vice Rector of TVU, expressed her gratitude to Prof. Dr. Ton Vroeijenstijn for his sharing.  Ms. Thach Thi Dan stated that Prof. Dr. Ton Vroeijenstijn's shared experience is a great contribution to TVU in developing educational quality management system.

In the morning of September 14th, 2012, Tra Vinh University (TVU) and the University of Economics Ho Chi Minh City (UEH) formally organized the Opening Ceremony for the Undergraduate Program 2012, major in Development Economics in part-time form. Ms. Son Thi Anh Hong, Standing Commissioner of Tra Vinh Provincial Communist Party Committee and Vice president of Tra Vinh Provincial People's Committee attended the ceremony.

Attending the ceremony, there were Prof. Dr. Nguyen Dong Phong, President of UEH; Dr. Pham Tiet Khanh, Rector of TVU; Mr. Tran Hoan Kim, Chairman of TVU Advisory Council; representatives of Tra Vinh Provincial Communist Party Committee; Department of Home Affairs and lecturers of the two Universities and 118 new students.

 

This course is under the Project of planning and developing human resource for the social and economic development in the period from 2011 to 2020 in Tra Vinh province. Its aim is to widen their knowledge, enhance their executive and manageable capacity as well as mission implementation capacity of governmental officials in the province. On this occasion, Dr. Pham Tiet Khanh congratulated 118 new students and expressed his expectation to the students’ efforts to obtain the best results during the course. He also expressed his gratitude to Tra Vinh Provincial Communist Party Committee, Tra Vinh Provincial People's Committee and related Departments for their support and expressed his sincere thanks to UEH for the co-operation in training and developing human resource for Tra Vinh province in particular and Mekong Delta in general.

In the morning of September 17, 2012, Rector of TVU had a meeting with Dr. Truong Tri Vu, President & CEO of EcoloCap Solutions Group, Canada.  Participating the meeting, there were Mr. Tran Hoan Kim, Chairman of TVU Advisory Council, Mr. Le Van Don, Vice Rector of TVU, Mr. Dang Vu Hoang, Director of Axius Co.Ltd in Long Duc Industrial Park and TVU departments’ representatives at Workshop 1. It was discussed the invitation of Dr. Pham Tiet Khanh for Dr. Truong Tri Vu to become a member of Advisory Council.

At the meeting, a representative of TVU had an overall introduction of the establishment and development in terms of the co-operation relationship between TVU and the internal and external partners. Dr. Truong highly evaluated the achievements of cooperation and training activities, especially the Co-op program, a co-operational education model between TVU and enterprises.

 

On this occasion, Dr. Pham Tiet Khanh offered a position to be the member of TVU Advisory Council for Dr. Truong Tri Vu to give his consultation on the Co-op program, soft skills training courses for students, establishing the relationship between TVU and Université de Montréal, Canadaas well as looking forward to be consulted about majors of waste treatment,environmental protection and training programs associated with soft skills.

Closing the warm meeting, Dr. Truong Tri Vu received the Decision from Dr. Pham Tiet Khanh and has become an official member of Advisory Council of TVU.

The overall meeting

In the afternoon of September 22nd, 2012, Dr. Pham Tiet Khanh, Rector of TVU; Mr. Tran Hoan Kim, Chairman of TVU Advisory Council and Mr. Le Van Don, Vice Rector of TVU welcomed and worked with Ms.  Liane Roy, President and CEO of CCNB and Ms.  Annette Comeau, President and CEO of Learnsphere Canada Inc.

                At the meeting, the parties had opportunity to explore their institutional activities to seek educational co-operation opportunities. CCNB is a very successful institution in supporting its foreign institutions in professional and technical training, is flexible to meet local economic conditions and focuses on community integration involving labor market needs.

Volunteers from VIA work at Tra Vinh University

Since 2007, Tra Vinh University (TVU) has received many volunteers from Volunteers in Asia (VIA) to support TVU in teaching English for the students, lecturers and staff.

In the school year 2012 – 2013, the university continues to receive two volunteers from VIA, Mr. Thanh Tu Vincent Ly Tran and Ms. Laura Cooper Hall. The two volunteers will work at Department of Foreign Languages of Faculty of Economics, Law and Foreign Languages, TVU

 

At the first meeting, Mr. Thanh Tu Vincent Ly Tran, Ms. Laura Cooper Hall, the representatives of Department of Foreign Languages and International Collaboration and Project Promotion Department have discussed and agreed on the volunteers' teaching and working schedule at the university from September 4th, 2012 to June 30th, 2013. In agreement between TVU and VIA, the volunteers will instruct English listening and speaking skills and American culture to TVU students. Besides, the volunteers and students will participate in weekly English Speaking Club and these volunteers teach English to lecturers and staff from different departments and faculties.

 

On behalf of the university, Dr. Pham Tiet Khanh expressed his gratitude to VIA for their support, which helps TVU students to have great conditions in learning English and, for their enduring co-operation. Dr. Pham Tiet Khanh promised to give the best conditions to the volunteers so that they can accomplish their tasks at TVU.

          On August 23rd and 24th, 2012, Tra Vinh University (TVU) participated National CDIO Conference year 2012 at Vietnam National University Ho Chi Minh City, Block 6, Linh Trung, Thu Duc, Ho Chi Minh City. The participants involved Mr. Nguyen Tien Dung, Vice Rector; Ms. Tieu Thanh Thuy, Director of Teaching and Learning Center; Mr. Phan Quoc Nghia, Dean of Engineering and Technology Faculty; Ms. Nguyen Kim Trong and Ms. Ly Thanh Hue, staff of Teaching and Learning Center. Participating the conference, there were leaders of Ministry of Education and Training, Higher Education Department and almost 300 delegates who came from 30 higher education institutions nationally and other ministries and departments. Besides, there were leaders and experts from the World CDIO Association and representatives of enterprises.

At the conference, institutions applying CDIO presented about reality and experience in receiving and applying CDIO to develop curriculum to meet society needs and international quality criterion. The representatives of enterprises also discussed about human resource needs to serve developmental strategy for key economic sectors of Vietnam.

          Knowledge and experience learnt from the conference helped TVU approach new curriculum building model and advanced training technology to meet social needs as well as promote creativity in programs, new evaluation process and innovation. The results and achievements from CDIO model applied by Vietnam National University Ho Chi Minh City and higher education institutions are a great motivation for TVU in applying this model to curriculum development in order to enhance learning and teaching quality in the coming years.

In the morning of September 9th 2012, Tra Vinh University formally organized the Opening Ceremony for the first Master Program on Southern Khmer Culture.
Participating the ceremony, there were Ms. Nguyen Thi Kha, Standing Commissioner of Committee of National Assembly Social Issues; Mr. Thach Mo-ni, Deputy- Director of Ethnic and Religious Department, Southwest Steering Committee; Dr. Vu Thanh Binh, expert of Postgraduate Department, Ministry of Education and Training; Ms. Son Thi Anh Hong, Vice president of Tra Vinh Provincial People's Committee; Mr. Tran Binh Trong, Standing Commissioner- Chief of Propaganda Committee of Tra Vinh Provincial Communist Party Committee; Rector Board of Tra Vinh University and representatives of Departments in districts and the province and 34 new learners.

Tra Vinh University was approved to open and implement the Postgraduate program of Cultures of Vietnam Ethnic Minorities, specialized in Southern Khmer Culture by Ministry of Education and Training in order to meet social and economic development tasks, train qualified human resource for Tra Vinh province in particular and Mekong Delta region in general. This is the first Master course of Southern Khmer Culture in Tra Vinh University approved by Ministry of Education and Training. In his speech at the ceremony, Dr. Pham Tiet Khanh, Rector of Tra Vinh University congratulated 34 new students and was in the hope of their successful studies to become qualified resource to meet tasks of the project of Ethnic Minorities Cultures Preservation and Development by 2020 approved by Prime Minister.
Participating and giving directional speech at the ceremony, Ms. Son Thi Anh Hong, Vice president of Tra Vinh Provincial People's Committee congratulated those students and stated her belief to Rector Board, staff and lecturers of Tra Vinh University and the students' learning efforts. The course will provide Tra Vinh province and provinces in Mekong Delta qualified staff to meet requirements and tasks of Khmer Ethnic Cultures preserving and developing to contribute to Specific Vietnam Culture Establishment.

In the afternoon of August 26th, 2012, through the introduction of Dr. Do Thi Dong Xuan- international coordinator of Karki Institute, the delegation of professors from St Istvan University and Karki Institute,Hungary paid a visit to Tra Vinh University (TVU). At TVU’s side, Dr. Pham Tiet Khanh- Rector of TVU along with Mr. Nguyen Tien Dung, Mr. Le Van Don,- Vice Rectors of TVU and lecturers of faculty of Agriculture and Aquaculture welcomed the delegation.

At the meeting, the participants discussed about the issues for collaboration. On this occasion, Prof. Dr. Miklós Mézes from St Istvan University introduced about the available teaching programs at his university in which the postgraduate programs were most attracted by lecturers of TVU .  

            On behalf of TVU, Dr. Pham Tiet Khanh expressed his pleasure to welcome the delegation and said thanks to Dr. Do Thi Dong Xuan for her connection helping TVU have more foreign partners. This collaboration is a bridge making the friendship betweenVietnamandHungarymore sustainable.

            After discussing and having agreement, Dr. Pham Tiet Khanh and Prof. Dr. István Szalay signed an MOU (Memorandum of Understanding) for collaboration between TVU and Karki Institute on research and education issues.

  On August 20th, 2012, a Delegation of Kobe University andNaraUniversity paid a courtesy call on Tra Vinh University (TVU). Dr. Pham Tiet Khanh- Rector of TVU, Ms. Thach Thi Dan- Vice Rector of TVU along with leaders of some offices and faculties of TVU welcomed the delegation.

  At the meeting, the participants of three universities exchanged the details on their research that has been conducted by some members of three universities.

On this occasion, the sides also exchanged information on their training activities as well as the research activities aiming at further collaboration in various fields.

On behalf of TVU’s side, Dr. Pham Tiet Khanh thanked for the visit of the delegation and expressed his desire to have further collaboration withKobeUniversityandNaraUniversityin the coming time. He informed that TVU always focuses on upgrading the quality of training and researching through the collaboration and support from different partners.
