 On February 1st, 2013, Advisory Council of TVU held the third meeting in order to report activities of 2012 and discuss about strategic plan as well as reach a consensus in working program in 2013. Mr. Tran Hoan Kim, Chairman of Advisory Council, chaired the meeting.

At the meeting, the Advisory Council’s members listened and discussed about strategic development objectives of phase 2010-2015 such as developing human resources, training programs, scientific research, finance, facilities and international collaboration.

 

Contributory ideas of participants and the Advisory Council’s members were close to TVU situation and strategic development orientation. Prof. Dr. Vo Van Truong suggested that TVU should continue to invest more for Faculty of Linguistics and Southern Khmer Culture and Art as it was the central faculty for the region. Associate Prof. Dr. Le Quang Minh mentioned that TVU had to study more about Mekong Delta’s particular areas of study and innovate management system as well as apply advanced technology and decentralization to faculties along with establishing TVU quality assurance council. Dr. Phan Manh Tien noticed that training had to be attached to society’s needs along with revising allowed areas of study and updating training programs towards Ministry of Education and Training’s regulations.

 

 

Mr. Tran Hoan Kim highly evaluated these precious ideas and transferred them to TVU strategic development plan with appropriate adjustment to TVU context along with promoting training quality and policies for well-educated and qualified human resources. On this occasion, the Advisory Council admitted five new members including Dr. Phan Manh Tien, Former Deputy Director of Higher Education Department; Mr. Bui Van Tong, CEO of TV. Pharm Joint Stock Company; Mr. Tran Trung Hien, Director of Department of Agriculture and Rural Development; Mr. Le Van Hong Anh, Deputy Director of Department of Science and Technology and Mr. Luong Van Minh, Rector of Tra Vinh Health College.

On the occasion of visiting provinces in Mekong Delta, H. E. Prof. Dr. Nguyen Thien Nhan, Deputy Prime Minister and the delegation visited TVU in the afternoon on Feb 1st, 2013. Mr. Tran Khieu, Chairman of Tra Vinh Provincial People’s Committee; Mr. Tran Hoan Kim, Chairman of TVU Advisory Council; Dr. Pham Tiet Khanh, TVU Rector; TVU Rector Board; representatives of TVU instructors, volunteers and students extremely honored to welcome H. E. Prof. Dr. Nguyen Thien Nhan, Deputy Prime Minister and the delegation.


On this occasion, TVU reported to H. E. Prof. Dr. Nguyen Thien Nhan, Deputy Prime Minister and delegates about the development and establishment process of the university as well as suggestions from TVU Rector in developing education in Vietnam in general and in Tra Vinh province in particular.


During this visit, H. E. Prof. Dr. Nguyen Thien Nhan, Deputy Prime Minister had a friendly meeting with TVU instructors and students. In his speech at the meeting, H. E. Prof. Dr. Nguyen Thien Nhan highly evaluated TVU achievements, as a result of their efforts in last 10 years. H.E. Prof. Dr. Nguyen Thien Nhan acclaimed co-op education model that TVU is applying and the achievement on employment rate. H. E. Prof. Dr. Nguyen Thien Nhan also mentioned some advanced agricultural production models in Mekong Delta and emphasized that Tra Vinh is an agricultural province; therefore, TVU has to focus on offering areas of study of sustainable agriculture with climate change adaptation and building plans for teaching capacity development in the purposing of having many qualified instructors as Vietnam university standards in 2020.

In the morning of January 17th, 2013, TVU Rector Board had a meeting with Mr. Michael Emblem, Regional Director of WUSC about this organization’s volunteers’ working results at TVU and discussing cooperation opportunities, especially receiving more volunteers in the coming time.

At the meeting, representatives of International Collaboration and Project Promotion Office (ICO) acknowledged the volunteers’ contributions. Thereby, Mr. Michael Emblem highly evaluated TVU achievements via these contributions.

 

On behalf of TVU, Dr. Pham Tiet Khanh expressed his gratitude to WUSC for sending experienced experts and volunteers to TVU. He promised to offer the best conditions for them to accomplish their tasks at TVU.

In the morning on January 2nd, 2013, Tra Vinh University (TVU) held the commencement ceremony of building the dormitory with 20,480 square meters to TVU Khmer and poor students. Mr. Tran Khieu, Deputy Secretary of Tra Vinh Provincial Communist Party Committee cum Chairman of Tra Vinh Provincial People’s Committee along with leader representatives of provincial departments and TVU departments, TVU Rector Board, contractors and inspectors took part in the ceremony.

On behalf of the university, Dr. Pham Tiet Khanh, TVU Rector expressed his gratitude to higher authorities for their supporting in implementing this project at TVU. Mr. Tran Khieu commanded stakeholders to co-ordinate simultaneously and closely for the safe, appropriate and qualified work. On December 30th, 2012, TVU and My Lan Group held the closing ceremony and degree conferring to 37 students. Dr. Pham Tiet Khanh, TVU Rector; Mr. Nguyen Tien Dung, TVU Vice Rector and Dr. Nguyen Thanh My, Founder and Chief Executive Officer, My Lan Group cum Dean of Applied Chemistry, TVU awarded degrees to the students. Besides, representatives of Tra Vinh provincial departments, TVU instructors and the students’ parents participated in the ceremony.

It is the second course of Chemistry Technology at TVU, which has been trained towards cooperative program model by cooperating between My Lan Group and TVU. As Faculty of Applied Chemistry’s news, 37 per 39 students were eligible to graduate, accounted for 94,87% and the rate of good students was 80.79%. Especially, the 11 students were employed at My Lan Group. On behalf of the 37 students, Le Thi Thuy Duong, the course’s valedictorian delivered her emotional speech and promised to apply precious knowledge and skills into practical job to meet the employers’ requirements.

 

Delivering his closing speech, Dr. Pham Tiet Khanh congratulated these new engineers for accomplishing their studies. Dr. Khanh believed that equipped knowledge and skills have helped the students be confident to approach their prospect jobs. On this occasion, he expressed his gratitude to My Lan Group for supporting TVU in cooperative training model.

On occasion of Christmas and New Year, “Get Together 2012” show with the topic “Peace and Sea” was held at the hall of Faculty of Agriculture and Aquaculture on December 23, 2012 by Faculty of Economics, Laws and Foreign Languages. Dr. Pham Tiet Khanh, TVU Rector along with volunteers, lecturers and students participated in the show.

With the support of TVU volunteers, students of English major prepared well and performed performances wonderfully including singing, dancing, playing, etc…“Get Together” is the annual event, which is great opportunity for students to relax as well as improve their foreign language skills. The 9th “Get Together” closed with participants’ pleasure and warmest  passion of Christmas and New Year.

 With the exciting atmosphere of Christmas and New Year, Dr. Pham Tiet Khanh sent his best wishes to the volunteers and their families. Cultural and art activities including singing and dancing were taken place interestingly at the party.

 

The party closed with warmest atmosphere. This event was great encouragement to volunteers for accomplishing their responsibilities at TVU.

In the morning of December 10th, 2012, TVU held a seminar on “Solutions to enhancing the capacity of students in scientific research and gaining their interest in agri-aquaculture field”. For VHI, Mr. Nguyen Thanh Chim and Ms. Le Thi Kim Nga attended the meeting. Mr. Le Van Don, Vice Rector of TVU, together with instructors and students of the Faculty of Agriculture and Aquaculture welcomed the delegates from VHI.


Speaking at the seminar, Mr. Le Van Don, Vice Rector of TVU, pointed out the advantages and disadvantages of TVU in general and of the Faculty of Agriculture and Aquaculture in particular and proposed the cooperation program in the future.

On this occasion, Mr. Nguyen Thanh Chim, on behalf of VHI, gave 10 scholarships to TVU students who are from poor families but have had good study results. These were meaningful presents which encouraged the students to try harder in their study. He hopes that the VHI will give more scholarships to TVU students in the future.

          On behalf of the Rector Board of TVU, Mr. Le Van Don expressed his gratitude to the VHI for the their enduring support for the faculty members as well as the students of TVU so far and looked forward to the more lasting and stronger relationship between TVU and VHI.

          After meeting with the students, Mr. Nguyen Thanh Chim had a talk with leaders and instructors of the Faculty of Agriculture and Aquaculture to discuss more about the important orientations towards scientific research.

 

          On December 11 and 12, 2012, Mr. Nguyen Thanh Chim along with instructors of the Faculty of Agriculture and Aquaculture organized a workshop for farmers of Hung My village, Chau Thanh district. Then he visited the place to build a bridge that VHI is asking for funding. Finally, he visited the fresh and safe vegetable planting model which TVU has been undertaking with his great support.

        Taking the opportunity of awarding curriculum development prizes to TVU instructors on December 7, 2012, SIAST representatives including Mr. Miles Fahlman, Program Coordinator of International Education Business Development Advancement; Mr. Graham Chute, Program Head of Business Administration/International; and VACC and TVU representatives involving Dr. Pham Tiet Khanh, TVU Rector cum VACC President along with representatives of International Collaboration and Project Promotion Office, Teaching and Learning Center and Southern VACC Office delivered a discussion about further co-operation opportunities between VACC, TVU and SIAST.

  TVU and SIAST focused on joint research and joint online courses provided that there were curricula similarities while VACC and SIAST discussed to hold curriculum development workshops to VACC college members including TVU. It is expected to hold these workshops in TVU and somewhere in the North of Vietnam in September 2013 to be convenient for VACC college members’ participation.

The meeting promised several prospect co-operation opportunities between the institutions.

These curriculum prizes are sponsored by SIAST annually. There were three best curricula among eight ones in this competition. Ms. Nguyen Thi Hong Tham, Mr. Phan Chi Hieu and Ms. Ha Thi Thuy Vi were winners with the first, second and third prize respectively.

On behalf of SIAST, Mr. Miles Fahlman expressed his pleasure to award the prizes to TVU instructors to encourage them develop qualified and diversified curricula for learning and teaching.

On behalf of TVU, Dr. Pham Tiet Khanh expressed his gratitude to SIAST for the enduring support and looked forward to the more lasting and stronger relation between the two institutions.
