In the morning on October 10th, 2012, Southwestern Direction Board held the meeting for Sene Don ta festival for Khmer people in Can Tho. On behalf of TVU, Ms. Thach Thi Dan, Vice Rector of TVU, Khmer students and instructors participated in the meeting.

Sene Don ta is one of three big traditional festivals of Khmer people in the South of Vietnam. At the meeting, the participants expressed their pleasure for the government's solutions for controlling agricultural prices for a better life of people. There are Khmer language training programs and enough instructors for all levels at places where Khmer people live. Besides, there will be many programs and solutions for poor Khmer people in the near future.

for Sene Don ta festival in Can Tho

 

Holding Sene Don ta festival represents higher authorities' attention to ethnic minorities and manifests solidarity among Southwestern Khmer community. This occasion is for Khmer community to commemorate and express their gratitude to their ancestors and contributors to the country. This is the time for Khmer community to gather at pagodas to do good things and share their difficulties in dealing with farming in the year.

 In the morning on October 5th, 2012, representatives of TVU Advisory Council, TVU Rector Board, Faculty of Linguistics, Southern Khmer Art and Culture and TVU departments warmly welcomed the delegation of Southwestern Direction Board led by Mr. Ha Huu Lien, Director General of Department for Ethnic and Religious Affairs, Southwestern Direction Board to work at TVU. Accompanying the delegation, there were Mr. Thach Muni, Deputy Director General of Department for Ethnic and Religious Affairs; Mr. Bui Ngoc Diep, Higher Deputy Director General of Department of Political System Development; Mr. Pham Van Nhon, Deputy Director General of Social and Cultural Department, Southwestern Direction Board. The visit was to explore training affairs in Khmer areas of study and delivered a discussion section about enrollment status for Southern Khmer Traditional Instrument Performance at TVU.

At the meeting, the delegation had opportunity to discover establishment and development as well as difficulties in enrollment affairs for areas of study in Culture and Traditional Instrument Performance of Faculty of Linguistics, Southern Khmer Art and Culture presented by Dr. Nguyen Thi Hue, Dean of the faculty. She also suggested the delegation to support the faculty in implementing its mission in training, research, national cultural character preservation and promotion of Vietnam ethnic minorities in general and Southern Khmer in particular.


Dr. Nguyen Thi Hue proposed to strengthen open enrollment to officials in Mekong Delta to study areas of linguistics, Southern Khmer Culture in general and Southern Khmer Traditional Instrument Performance in particular. She also suggested the delegation to support TVU in holding internal and external ethnic activities including scientific workshops, cultural events, enrollment advising to students and their parents, have preferential policies for staff and instructors who involve with ethnic affairs and for Khmer intellectuals, petition to higher authorities for encouragement policies such as reduced and exempted school fees and scholarships for Khmer people to study linguistics and Southern Khmer culture.


The delegation highly evaluated TVU instructors' and staff's efforts and Tra Vinh Provincial People's Committee's great direction in Khmer national cultural character promotion associated with the mission of the project of Ethnic Minority Culture Preservation and Promotion to 2020 approved by Prime Minister. The delegation accepted that TVU's suggestions were appropriate and these proposals represented long-term developmental strategies. Mr. Ha Huu Lien proposed that TVU needed to promote to popularize the importance of national cultural character preservation and promotion to community and Khmer students. TVU should send official recommendation documents to related departments to co-ordinate to implement training mission in particular areas of study for Khmer people in Southwestern region. The delegation received TVU's proposals to submit to higher authorities for consideration.


Dr. Pham Tiet Khanh, Rector of TVU expressed his gratitude to the delegation for their visit and attention to Khmer people as well as their support to TVU in Southwestern Khmer national cultural character preservation and promotion. Dr. Pham Tiet Khanh received the delegation's comments in promoting higher authorities' attention to develop the faculty to become the key faculty in Southwestern region to meet Khmer people's studying needs and it is a place for Southwestern Khmer national cultural character preservation and promotion.

As the development plan of co-operation programs between TVU and SLSU, from October 4th to October 8th, 2012, the delegation of SLSU including Dr. Jude A. Duarte, Vice President of SLSU and SLSU instructors and staff visited and worked with TVU. Mr. Nguyen Tien Dung, Vice Rector of TVU warmly welcomed the delegation.

                The delegation's visit was to learn more about training activities of TVU, especially visited students of Master program of Management (MM) of SLSU extended in TVU; held research forum for MM students at TVU. The delegation also visited TVU facilities and classes at Teacher Education Practice School, TVU.

At the meeting on October 8th, 2012, Mr. Nguyen Tien Dung expressed his gratitude to the delegation for their visit and working with TVU. Besides, he introduced prospective opportunities and potential co-operation between the two universities, especially in volunteer exchange and instructing English language to TVU students by SLSU instructors. Dr. Jude A. Duarte, Vice President of SLSU expressed his pleasure to this visit and agreed with co-operation suggestions from TVU. The two parties will explore specific areas for the co-operation agreement in the future.

To encourage studying, applied research and creativity in the area of engineering and science of TVU students as well as select the best students for "Robocon Competition in Vietnam" annually, on October 6th, 2012, the second Robocon competition for TVU students with the topic "Legend of Ba Om Pond" was taken place in Multi-Functional Competition Hall in Campus 4, TVU. Mr. Nguyen Tien Dung, Vice Rector of TVU, participated in and delivered his speech. At the opening section, the competition's Organization Board warmly welcomed representatives of TVU Rector Board, sponsors and students to support the competition.

In this competition, there were ten teams majored in Electricity, Electronics, Mechanics, Informatics and Technology under the Faculty of Engineering and Technology, TVU. There were four members and two robots in each team including an automatic robot and a controlled robot. These robots were run under the Organization Board's regulations. The first and second round of the competition were taken place in the morning and in the afternoon respectively. The teams performed excellently in the two exciting rounds.

At the closing section, the Organization Board selected the four most excellent teams to award the first, second, third and consolation prize. This event is one of TVU's annual activities to create opportunity for TVU students to exchange their knowledge and promote their creativity in studying. This competition also helped TVU instructors to get more experience through conducting and supporting their students to run robots.

In the morning on October 4th, 2012, TVU and Education USA organized an introduction about US scholarships including undergraduate and graduate programs to TVU instructors, staff and students in Hall 1, TVU. Mr. Nguyen Tien Dung, Vice Rector of TVU, participated in the introduction.

The US scholarships are for undergraduate and graduate programs including visa procedures and students' life introduced to TVU instructors and students by Ms. Anna Dupont, Culture Affairs Officer, US Consulate in Ho Chi Minh City and Ms. Tran Nguyen Hanh Nguyen, Education Advisor, Education USA, US Consulate. At the introduction, Ms. Anna Dupont and Ms. Tran Nguyen Hanh Nguyen provided information about pre-studying and studying opportunities in US, educational quality verification activities, studying procedures, scholarships and financial aids.

Welcoming Ms. Alica Luise Felgendreher, there were Dr. Pham Tiet Khanh, Rector of TVU and representatives of Victory Center of Informatics and Foreign Languages and International Collaboration and Project Promotion Office, TVU.

At the first meeting, Ms. Alica Luise Felgendreher was orientated and shared useful information about local people’s culture and life and TVU regulations by the representative of International Collaboration and Project Promotion Office. Ms. Alica Luise Felgendreher will instruct learners at Victory Center of Informatics and Foreign Languages for three months and her contract can be extended. In her first week, Ms. Alica Luise Felgendreher will observe some classes of Victory Center of Informatics and Foreign Languages to get teaching experience from the center’s instructors and explore the learners’ studying capacity. Afterwards, she will instruct English to the center’s learners.

On behalf of TVU Rector Board, Dr. Pham Tiet Khanh expressed his cheers to Ms. Alica Luise Felgendreher. TVU will offer her convenient conditions during her working time at TVU.

At the meeting, Prof. Dr. Hayashidani promised to be the contact person to help Tra Vinh University become one of the sister universities of Tokyo University of Agriculture and Technology and establish the relationship between the two universities in terms of student and staff exchange.

After the meeting with the Rector Board and staff of Tra Vinh University, in the afternoon of the same day, Prof. Dr. Hayashidani and Dr. Tran Thi Phan also delivered a presentation on diseases caused by Yersinia and Salmonella bacteria to the instructors and students of Faculty of Agriculture and Aquaculture.
