 Tra Vinh University (TVU) 30 high school students in Tra Vinh province have learnt English at School of Foreign Languages for the next two years according to “English Access Microscholarship Program”.




The beneficiaries of this project receive full scholarships for learning English at the university. They only spend two evenings at class per week, from 6:00pm to 8:00pm, for this program.  Beyond class hours, they have opportunity to join extracurricular activities and fieldtrips. Both their class time and extracurricular hours, they have many great chances to communicate with international volunteers and experts.


 “After two years, these students certainly gain basic English skills. This program helps them be more active and confident to communicate with native speakers”,  said Dr. Nguyen Thi Phuong Nam, Dean of School of Foreign Languages.


 English Access Microscholarship Program” has been implemented in Tra Vinh University for the next two years, from Dec 5 2015 to Dec 5 2017, as the signed agreement by Assoc. Prof. Dr. Pham Tiet Khanh, Tra Vinh University Rector and Director Beverly H. Attallah, Global Connections, the United States Department of State, Bureau of Education and Cultural Affairs.

Get Together 2015 “May we, Mais oui”

 (TVU) – In the evening of 17 December, Get Together 2015 “May we, Mais oui” was taken place in Campus 1.


This special event attracted around 1,000 current students and many alumni, foreign students, international interns and experts as well as TVU lecturers and managers.

In the opening speech, Dr. Nguyen Thien Nghia, TVU Vice Rector offered his greetings and warm wishes to the volunteers and students in this Christmas season.  


“For Western culture, Christmas Eve is the very important moment for family members to gather. And this evening is a great opportunity for TVU to send our sincere greetings to you all, TVU family’s members”, said the Vice Rector.

“It is wonderful to relive the days of my student time in TVU”, alumnus Lam Nhan Thien said.

  (TVU) On January 5, Assoc. Prof. Dr. Pham Tiet Khanh, TVU Rector warmly welcomed Dr. Phillip Adams, American expert in Physics, Biology, Laws and Educational Science.

Dr. Phillip Adams’ visit was to find out solutions for scholarship opportunity enhancement to TVU students.

Tra Vinh University (TVU) –On November 26, TVU officially inaugurated the  IEEE - MTT Student Chapter with the sponsorship and assistance of Dr. David Nghiem, the President and CEO of Global Wireless Technology (GWT), Inc.

The IEEE-MTT, which is a unit of the Microwave Theory and Techniques Society, consists of many active local chapters which sponsor technical meetings, workshops, social events, seminar series, host the annual International Microwave Symposium or Radio and Wireless Week, and serve the professional and technical needs of members.


At the inauguration, Dr. Nguyen Thai Son, Vice Dean of School of Engineering and Technology said “TVU IEEE-MTT Student Chapter is the first one in Vietnam and TVU is honored to initiate the IEEE-MTT in our country.”


 Being a member of The IEEE-MTT, TVU IEEE Student Chapter will carry out several activities including organizing scientific workshops with the advocate of the IEEE-MTT, promoting the researches in electricity, electronics, energy usage and management, etc. 


At the inauguration, Dr. Nguyen Tien Dung, TVU Vice Rector congratulated the new members and encouraged them to be active and creative in all activities to access science in the world. On this occasion, he expressed his gratitude to Dr. David Nghiem and his daughter for their great assistance and sponsorship.


TVU – 23 NOV 2015. Dorothée Déjardin, a French lecturer who has over 10 years' experience teaching French in France and the UK, today joins the TVU School of Foreign Languages to teach French language and literature, beginning January 2016.



Dorothée comes to TVU after holding several teaching and administrative positions at the training association Halte et Elles – CEFIP, and Ecole Perl (one of the top 10 French Schools in Paris). Her teaching experience spans all ages from young corporate executives to adults of different nationalities and professional background.


‘We are grateful that Dorothée has chosen to join the University of Tra Vinh and to contribute to the work of TVU’s School of Foreign Languages,’ said TVU Vice Rector Tran Van Trong.


Dorothée said she is ‘truly honored to get the chance to work for TVU and with such a valuable team.’

‘When I first arrived on the campus, last Saturday, I had the feeling I was entering into a kind of 'tropical paradise', with that luxurious vegetation, that bright yellow on the walls, similar to the sun, and that blue sky,’ Dorothée added of her first impression of the main campus.


Dorothée received her bachelor’s degree in literature from Université Stendhal-Grenoble 3,

and a master’s in French from the University of Nanterre - Paris X. Since 2004, she taught French in Grammar School for Boys and Comprehension School in the United Kingdom.


“We are proud that we have gone to great lengths to secure such an experienced teacher from Paris,” said Dr Ho-Dac Tuc, the School’s Deputy Dean. “The School continues to invite teachers from abroad so that our students have an opportunity to interact with, and learn from, different cultures on campus.”


The Department of French was created within the School of Foreign Languages in May 2015. The School now adds French and Mandarin as second foreign languages to English majors, and offers the English language as minor to approximately 9,000 students within the University and from around the Mekong Delta.

Tra Vinh University - On October 22, 2015, Dr. Nestor M. De Vera, President of Laguna State Polytechnic University (LSPU), Philippines and Assoc. Prof. Dr. Pham Tiet Khanh, President of Tra Vinh University (TVU) singed a MoU on educational co-operation including student exchange and 2+2 program.

Dr. Nestor M. De Vera was impressed by the development and the training scale of TVU. At the signing ceremony, he said “Tra Vinh University has disciplines that match with ours including Agriculture, Aquaculture, Economics, Laws, Education and Tourism.”


With 2+2 program, students will learn at TVU for two years and learn at LSPU for two years as well.

TVU – From 23 to 27, September, 2015, Ms. Nguyen Thi Dau, Head of Department of Husbandry and Veterinary, School of Agriculture and Aquaculture, on behalf of Tra Vinh University (TVU), presented on “Sustainable Livestock Development to 2020 in Vietnamat the 8th Vietnamese-Hungarian International Conference on Agricultural Research for Development with the theme “Conservation and Biodiversity Research” in Godollo, Hungary by the invitation of Research Centre for Farm Animal Gene Conservation(HáGK).



The conference provides me more teaching materials and knowledge about precious livestock at HáGK. And I have opportunity to visit exhibition on agriculture as well”, said Ms. Dau.


The 9th Vietnamese-Hungarian International Conference on Agricultural Research for Development with the theme “Agriculture for Sustainable Development” is planning to be organized in Vietnam in November 2016 and hosted by TVU.

 TVU – September 28, 2015, Tra Vinh University received six Filipino interns, majoring in Education,  under the framework of co-operative agreement between Tra Vinh University (TVU) and Southern Leyte State University (SLSU), Philippines. Mr. Tran Van Trong, TVU Vice Rector warmly welcomed the interns and the representatives from SLSU.


At the meeting, the Vice Rector highly evaluated the fruitful cooperation, especially intern exchange between the two universities for recent years. This field of co-operation helps the students learn new cultures and languages as well as integrate themselves into new teaching methodologies. On this occasion, the Vice Rector sent his sincere thanks to SLSU President Board for choosing TVU to be the destination for the interns. He expressed his hope that the exchange program is the bridge for the good relationship between TVU and SLSU as well as for the development of the two universities.

TVU- On 18 September, 2015, H.E.Mr. Ng Teck Hean, Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the Republic of Singapore to Vietnam and the delegation visited Tra Vinh University. Assoc. Prof. Dr. Pham Tiet Khanh, TVU Rector warmly welcomed Ambassador and the delegation. 


H.E. Mr. Ng Teck Hean was impressed by the development of TVU and expressed his expectation for educational and business cooperation in Tra Vinh Province.


“Singapore government’s special attention is to develop qualified human resources and offer many scholarships to Vietnamese students annually”, said the Ambassador.


At the meeting with the Ambassador, Assoc. Prof. Dr. Pham Tiet Khanh extended his expectation with fruitful co-operation in research, academic and international projects between TVU and Singapore institutions.  


 Beyond the formal meeting with TVU Rector Board, H.E. Mr. Ng Teck Hean and the delegation had an intimate talk with TVU students. The Ambassador expressed his pleasure for the students’ inquiries about scholarship policies and educational environment in Singapore.

Tra Vinh, September 18,2015 - Rachel Joy Salamena from the Students Without Borders program, WUSC undertook her voluntary work at Tra Vinh University for over three months, from September 19to December 31, 2015.

Rachel Joy Salamena is currently an undergraduate student majoring in International Development and Globalization, University of Ottawa, Canada. Working as an analyst on cooperative education at Public Works Government Services Canada, she would love to work as a volunteer at TVU for community-based development projects focused on the importance of competence development to sustainable development.

"As a student of International Development and Globalization, I am fully aware the importance of developing skills for young people. With my experience, I believe I can be a good presenter at workshops to share TVU students about living and academic skills", said Rachel.


Beyond these workshops, cultural exchange between Vietnam and Canada is also Ms. Rachel’s concern during her time at TVU.
