Invited by the World Federation of Colleges and Polytechnics (WFCP) and Association of Canadian Community Colleges (ACCC), Dr. Pham Tiet Khanh, Rector of Tra Vinh University (TVU) and President of Vietnam Association of Community Colleges (VACC), attended 2012 World Congress in Halifax, Nova Scotia, Canada from May 26 to May 29, 2012. This was the seventh WFCP World Congress with the theme “Driving the Global Economy” stimulating dialogue on the profound influence of education on societies, economies and urban and rural communities. Over 1,200 institutional leaders, senior government officials, international partners, faculty and students gathered in Halifax. The ACCC Annual Conference was integrated into the WFCP event.

Before attending the Opening Ceremony of 2012 World Congress, Dr. Khanh had precious opportunities to meet with TVU and VACC current as well as potential partners to discuss more about the possibilities for both enhancing the existing international collaborations and establishing the new ones with them.

Meeting with Prof. Dr. Truong Vo-Van, President of Canada-Vietnam Education Network and Chair of the Department of Physics of Concordia University, Dr. Khanh extended his thanks to Dr. Truong for his considerable supports to TVU in particular and to Vietnamese Education in general so far.

Having met with Mr. Gleen Blackwood, Vice-President Memorial University (Marine Institute), Dr. Khanh discussed the possibilities for carrying out joint training programs between TVU and The Fisheries and Marine Institute of Memorial University of Newfoundland (MI).

In his efforts to seek new partners, Dr. Khanh met with leaders of Saint Mary’s University and Mount Saint Vincent University. They got fruitful meetings promising many exciting possible collaborations that can be formed between TVU and these two institutions in the very near future.

As the President of VACC, Dr. Khanh signed the Memorandum of Understanding with Cégep André-Laurendeau regarding the 2-stage training program in Logistics. Besides, Dr. Khanh signed the Memorandum of Understanding with Cégep Marie-Victorin regarding the internship and voluntary programs, research collaborations, faculty exchange, and linkage training programs.

2012 World Congress ended successfully as planned, and we hope that both TVU and VACC will have better opportunities to implement more mutually beneficial collaboration activities with international partners after Dr. Khanh’s trip to Canada.

Tieu Thuy
