Choul Chnam Thmey 2022 Gala night

TVU – On April 8, a gala night was organized to celebrate the traditional Khmer New Year Choul Chnam Thmey at Hall E21.105 of Tra Vinh University.

There was the attendance of Ms. Thach Thi Dan, Vice-Rector of Tra Vinh University; Ms. Quach Thi Vu Hue, Director of Gender and Community Department; Meritorious Artist Kim Nghinh and artists of Anh Binh Minh (Dawn) Traditional Art Troupe; along with Cambodian lecturers and students of Tra Vinh University.

“Choul Chnam Thmey is a grand traditional new year celebration of Khmer people, as well as a way of welcoming luckiness, peacefulness, and a blessed harvest in the coming year,” says Ms. Thach Thi Dan.

“On the occasion of the Choul Chnam Thmey, I would like to express my appreciation to Anh Binh Minh Traditional Art Troupe, the gala organizers, lecturers, and students for making tonight so exciting and meaningful,” the Vice-Rector added.

A vast array of performances choreographed by students and Anh Binh Minh Traditional Art Troupe, ranging from instrument performances, Khmer traditional dances, Chomreang Chapey, etc. provided an impressive and unforgettable gala-night.

Son Ly Quy, a Khmer Traditional Instrument Performance major who performed the Chomreang Chapey “Joining to fight the Covid-19” shared: “I usually practice Chomreang Chapey in my spare time. It’s my passion and desire to pursue this special Khmer art form.”

Also on this occasion, 10 scholarships (500,000 VND each) were offered to Khmer students with difficult circumstances.
