CIDA Canada examines Community College Model

TRA VINH, 25.4.2014 – On April 25, Tra Vinh University (TVU) received leaders of Canadian International Development Agency (CIDA) who came to examine the success model of TVU after the University was upgraded to its current university status from a community college.

Ms. Suzanne Taschereau, Project Director Canada, Ms. Brenda Cooke, Project Director Vietnam and Mr. Brent Howell,  Dean of School of Engineering, Canada also took part in the delegation.

On the side of TVU, Mr. Tran Hoan Kim, Chairman of Advisory Council, Mr. Nguyen Tien Dung and Mr. Le Van Don, TVU Vice Rectors were very pleased to work with the delegation.

Ms. Suzanne Taschereau said: “We are very glad about the success of this community college model. It is considered to be a typical college- university model.”

She applauded efforts of the university for this model which has left impressive outcomes, especially co-operative program among students, TVU and enterprises.

Mr. Brent Howell mentioned that TVU’s investment in human resources plays a key role for this success. He said: “Although TVU admits that this model is fromCanada, I believe it should be called the Tra Vinh model.”

Vice Rector Nguyen Tien Dung made it clear that a focus on staff training is an integral part of the University’s strategies to be sustainable.
