Delegation of the Consulate General of the United States in Ho Chi Minh City worked at Tra Vinh University

(TVU) – On February 15, 2023, the Faculty of Foreign Languages and School of Southern Khmer Language – Culture – Art and Humanities (Tra Vinh University) coordinated with the delegation of the US Consulate General in Ho Chi Minh City to hold the opening of the program “EnglishWorks” – a vocational English program.

At the opening ceremony, there were the attendances of Assoc. Dr. Nguyen Minh Hoa, Rector of Tra Vinh University; Dr. Ngo So Phe, Rector of the School of Southern Khmer Language – Culture – Art and Humanities (Tra Vinh University); Ms. Natella Svistunova, Cultural Attaché of the US Consulate General; and Ms. Le Thi Kim Muon, Cultural Assistant of the US Consulate General in Ho Chi Minh City.

Ms. Natella Svistunova, Cultural Attaché of the US Consulate General, shared: “The EnglishWorks program is an initiative of the Regional English Office under the US Department of State to create opportunities to learn English and career skills for young people who are looking for work. The program includes vocational English training, soft skills, IT, entrepreneurship, and job searching skills. This year, 18 classes with 500 students participated in the EnglishWorks Program in Vietnam, Laos, and Cambodia. Particularly in the Mekong Delta region, there are three participating provinces, including Tra Vinh, Kien Giang, and Tien Giang.”

Speaking at the Opening ceremony, Dr. Ngo So Phe, Rector of the School of Southern Khmer Language – Culture – Art and Humanities (Tra Vinh University), shared that according to the program’s criteria, the school selected 25 suitable students to attend the class. The school would also create the best conditions for the class towards the program’s purpose.

Sending her message to the students, she said: “I hope you guys can participate fully, study seriously, and try your best to improve your abilities to self-study and research so that after the course, you can gain better knowledge of English, improving different skills for your future work and life.”

EnglishWorks is a vocational English program conducted by the Faculty of Foreign Languages. The faculty will select 25 students to participate. Students who are admitted will be able to study English from January to June 2023 with fully funded tuition fees, study materials, and other supplementary activities.
