EarthFeast Group – Tra Vinh University students develop ecotourism through “a day as a farmer” activity

TVU – On September 11, EarthFeast students from Tra Vinh University organized the “A day as a farmer” activity, attracting the community’s attention and marking a step forward in combining ecotourism and sustainable agriculture in the locality.

The event had the attendance of Ms. Le Thi Thu Hien, Chief Representative of Stichting Agriterra in Vietnam; Mr. Le Van Dien, General Director of ML-DT Shalom Joint Stock Company; Mr. La Quoc Yen, Chairman of the Board of Directors and Director of Chau Hung Agricultural Commercial Service Cooperative; Ms. Tran Thi Mong Thu, representative of The Chariot Company Limited; Mr. Phan Van Hai, representative of HAICORP Joint Stock Company; Mr. Vu Viet Thanh, representative of AI Joint Stock Company and representatives of enterprises, organizations and cooperatives accompanying the program.

On behalf of Tra Vinh University, there was Dr. Tran Thi Ngoc Bich, Vice Principal of the School of Engineering and Technology, co-founder of the STARS Water Center, and the EarthFeast student group of Tra Vinh University.

The program was jointly held by the EarthFeast group with the Agriterra organization, the Tra Vinh Province Cooperative Alliance, Chau Hung Cooperative, and farmers of Long Hoa commune. The activity is part of the initiative “Improving climate resilience based on nature through an organic rice-shrimp model integrating digital technology and ecotourism in Cu Lao Long Hoa”.

The program is not only a simple experiential tour, but also a practical research project that contributes to solving local economic and environmental problems, aiming to develop a sustainable development model that adapts to climate change.

In the program activities, visitors have the opportunity to transform into “real farmers” through agricultural production activities such as introducing the rice-shrimp model, sowing rice seedlings, going down to the pond to catch shrimp, crabs, and fish, processing dishes from local products, and wrapping the traditional cake (Banh it). These authentic experiences bring joy and excitement to participants and also help them better understand the value of labor and the close connection between people and nature.

The rice-shrimp model is introduced as a form of “natural farming”, taking advantage of natural conditions – rainy season for growing rice, dry season for raising shrimp – to create clean agricultural products, while contributing to protecting the soil-water ecosystem typical of the coastal area of Tra Vinh.

The event “A day as a farmer” is not only an experiential activity but also opens up a way to combine agricultural production with ecotourism development. Through this activity, farming products and local culture are introduced more widely, generating additional income for people and contributing to the sustainable promotion of the rural economy.

After the program, the Organizing Committee received many positive responses from visitors. These valuable comments will be the basis for the EarthFeast team to continue researching and improving in the future.
