TVU – On September 15, Tra Vinh University hosts the final round of the 2024 Student Startup Ideas Competition. The idea of “Artificial wood from rice straw” brilliantly clinches the First Prize.
The competition, launched in May 2024, initially attracted 194 ideas from over 700 students across various fields, including Economics-Law, Agriculture-Fisheries, Engineering-Technology, Tourism, Applied Chemistry, and Arts & Culture. The organizing committee selects 25 ideas and projects for the semi-finals.
Mr. Nguyen Van Vu An, Director of Tra Vinh Provincial Business Incubator and Director of the Innovation and Entrepreneurship Center at Tra Vinh University, states: “This year’s competition draws widespread participation from university students with numerous high-quality projects. It spreads the entrepreneurial spirit to students at our university and other universities and colleges in the Mekong Delta region.”
The final round features seven ideas: Bio-Plastic Production from Durian Shells; Artificial Wood from Rice Straw; Nipa Palm Flower Tea; Fast Soup – Time-saving Health Booster; NatLife – Green Fiber from Microplastics; BeeLife Ventures – Digital Green Bees; and Bricks from Various Waste Materials.
According to the competition rules, in the final round, each group presents for 3 minutes and undergoes 7 minutes of questioning from the judging panel. Evaluation criteria include feasibility, originality, creativity, problem-solving ability, addressing human needs, scalability, capital mobilization, resource combination, value contribution commitment, business plan, product samples, projected revenue and profit, social impact, customer base, and value demonstration.
After the competition, the organizing committee awards the First Prize to “Artificial Wood from Rice Straw.” The Second Prize goes to “BeeLife Ventures – Digital Green Bees”, while the Third Prize is awarded to “Bricks from Various Waste Materials”.
Two Encouragement Prizes are given to “Bio-Plastic Production from Durian Shells” and “NatLife – Green Fiber from Microplastics.” The Promising Idea Prize is shared between “Fast Soup – Time-saving Health Booster” and “Nipa Palm Flower Tea.”
The 2024 Student Startup Ideas Competition serves as a platform for students to apply their academic knowledge to practical situations, guiding them toward business activities. It offers opportunities for real-world experience, business insight accumulation, idea development, and discovery of future career paths.
The competition contributes to job creation for Tra Vinh University students through successful startup projects, fostering entrepreneurial spirit among the youth. It aims to discover and nurture creative ideas and products, select viable startup projects for higher-level competitions, and promote the practical application of outstanding ideas and projects.
