International Fund for Agricultural Development (IFAD) pays a visit to Tra Vinh University (TVU)

TRA VINH, August 6th, 2013 – Mr. Roshan Cooke, Regional Environment and Climate Specialist, Asia and the Pacific Region, the IFAD representative paid a visit to TVU, which aimed to explore cooperative possibilities in agriculture and rural development.

 
On this occasion, Mr. Roshan Cooke had clearer understanding about activities for sustainable agriculture development and climate change adaptation of the Faculty of Agriculture and Aquaculture.

Mr. Roshan Cooke was really impressed byfarming models to water conservation andforeign breeding testing including sugar-cane, sweet potatoes and mushrooms. The successful models which resulted from its sufficient human resource and facilities targeted to poor farmers and Khmer people to help them improve their economic condition. Therefore, Mr. Roshan Cooke expressed his pleasure for cooperative possibilities on these issues. After the meeting, he eagerly took a tour around the campus including areas for tissue culture.

The International Fund for Agricultural Development (IFAD)

IFAD, a specialized agency of the United Nations, was established as an international financial institution in 1977. IFAD has focused exclusively on rural poverty reduction, working with poor rural populations in developing countries to eliminate poverty, hunger and malnutrition; raise their productivity and incomes; and improve the quality of their lives.

Tra Vinh University (TVU)

TVU was Tra Vinh Community College (TVCC) which was established in 2001 under Vietnam Canada Community College Project. TVU has been upgraded from TVCC since 2006. There are 11 faculties and over 20,000 students. TVU offers multi levels including articulation courses and variety of flexible learning. Its mission is to provide skilled human resource and applied research.
