National Student Mathematical Olympiad 2022 at Tra Vinh University

TVU – On April 23, the online opening ceremony of the 28th National Student Mathematical Olympiad took place with the participation of 103 institutes, universities and high schools in Vietnam. At Tra Vinh University, 10 students qualified to enter the contest under the leadership of the School of Foundation Science.

Prof.Dr.Sc. Ngo Viet Trung, President of Vietnam Mathematical Society (VMS); Assoc.Prof.Dr.Sc. Vu Hoang Linh, Vice President and General Secretary of VMS, Head of the contest’s organizing committee; Dr. Tran Nam Dung, Member of Executive Committee of VMS, Assistant Principal of VNU-HCM High School for the Gifted; representatives and contestants from the 103 teams.

“After 2 years of postponement, there are changes in the format of the 2022 contest. Despite not being held in the same place, the contest is still maintained. The teams will compete under the supervision of the camera and the organizers, and with the cross supervision of the schools through the Zoom screen,” said Assoc.Prof.Dr.Sc. Vu Hoang Linh.

Before the official contest, the Organizing Committee also organized 4 lectures for high school students. The lectures are taught by experts in the field of Mathematics.

The National Students Mathematical Olympiad took place on April 23 and 24. As in previous years, candidates who are university students participated in two independent subjects, Algebra and Calculus, with a time of 180 minutes for each subject; candidates who are high school students took two exams in two 180-minute sessions. At the TVU venue, there were 10 contestants, including 5 taking the Algebra exam and 5 taking the Calculus exam.

Having the honor of being one of the two representatives of 800 contestants all across the country speaking at the ceremony, Nguyen Thi Huynh Nhu, a student of IT class 2021 expressed her joy and appreciation towards the organizers for organizing a meaningful and useful contest, creating conditions for students across the country to exchange, learn and accumulate more experience and knowledge.

The Contest is expected to contribute to improving the quality of teaching and learning Mathematics, promoting the movement of students to learn Mathematics, and at the same time discovering and fostering good students in Mathematics in different universities, colleges and institutes.

In addition, the Contest will also promote the passion for Mathematics in high school students, discover and foster good students in Mathematics, as well as create opportunities for exchanges between high school students who are good at Mathematics and other Math students and lecturers at universities, colleges and institutes.

The National Mathematical Olympiad for students is an annual activity organized by the Vietnam Mathematical Society in collaboration with the Ministry of Education and Training, the Vietnam Union of Science and Technology Associations and the Central Vietnam Student Association.

It is expected that the closing and award ceremony of the contest will take place before May 15, 2022.
