The 8th Debate competition finals “Education for Sustainable Development” in 2024

(TVU) – On the morning of March 30th, 2024, the debate competition with the theme “Education for Sustainable Development” takes place at Tra Vinh University, organized by the Center of Excellence in Learning Resources and Innovation (CELRI).

As for the Sponsors, Dr. Truong Tri Vu, Member of the Advisory Council of Tra Vinh University, Sponsor of the Soft Skills Support Fund and Entrepreneurship Development for students, sponsors the prizes and gifts for the contestants.

On Tra Vinh University’s side, Dr. Nguyen Tien Dung, Vice Chairman of the Advisory Council and Former Vice Rector of Tra Vinh University, together with representatives from other participating units attend.

After a breakthrough of the preliminary round, 12 outstanding contestants advanced to the final round. The contestants underwent two parts of the competition: individual debating and group debating. In the individual debating section, contestants randomly drew topics, with each contestant having 10 minutes of preparation and 7 minutes of presentation. In the group debating section, the contestants were divided into two groups to debate a topic with two contrasting viewpoints. Each group had 15 minutes of preparation and 2 minutes per contestant to debate against the opposing group.

The representative of the Competition Organizing Committee, Dr. Tieu Thanh Thuy, Director of the CELRI, Deputy Head of the Organizing Committee, shares: “The university highly values the importance of soft skills in students. Debating skills are one of the crucial soft skills for the future success of students. When students have an advantage in debating, they become more confident, enhance communication skills, train their thinking, and broaden their knowledge…”

Furthermore, the competition was organized to provide a healthy and beneficial playground for the youth, timely discovering and nurturing talented students, creating opportunities for students to demonstrate confidence, creativity, and personal aptitude in debating skills in front of an audience. At the same time, the competition provided a platform for students to meet, exchange knowledge, and discuss new issues related to the current era.

    

In the final results, contestant Tran Bao Huy, a student from the School of Medicine and Pharmacy, excels and achieves the First Prize. The Second Prize goes to contestant Ho Thi Thanh Hong, and the Third Prize was awarded to contestant Tran Thien Duong, both of whom are students from the School of Agriculture and Aquaculture. In addition, the Judging Panel awarded two Encouragement Prizes to contestants Tran Thi My Tien and Tran Thanh Ngan, both students from the School of Southern Khmer Language – Culture – Arts and Humanity (SLASKA).
