The Delegation of the Embassy and the Consulate General of Canada to Viet Nam visited and worked at Tra Vinh University

TVU – On March 7, 2022, Assoc.Prof.Dr. Pham Tiet Khanh, Rector of Tra Vinh University, President of the Vietnam Association of Community Colleges, President of Vietnam – Canada Friendship Association of Tra Vinh province, welcomed the delegation of the Embassy and the Consulate General of Canada to Viet Nam to Tra Vinh University.

From the Canadian delegations, there were Mr. Brian Allemekinders, Counselor for Cooperation and Development of the Embassy of Canada to Vietnam; Mr. Bez Babakhani, Consul General of Canada to Vietnam; and the delegation of the Embassy and the Consulate General of Canada to Vietnam.

In the meeting with the delegation, there were Assoc.Prof.Dr. Pham Tiet Khanh, Rector of Tra Vinh University, President of Vietnam – Canada Friendship Association in Tra Vinh province; Mr. Tran Hoan Kim, former Deputy Secretary of the Provincial Party Committee, former Chairman of Tra Vinh Provincial People’s Committee, Chairman of the Advisory Council of Tra Vinh University; Ms. Thach Thi Dan, Vice-Rector of the University and representatives of the Director Board and the school units.

Deliver the welcome speech, Assoc. Prof. Dr. Pham Tiet Khanh, Rector of Tra Vinh University, President of Vietnam Association of Community Colleges, President of the Vietnam – Canada Friendship Association in Tra Vinh province, said: “Since 2001, the cooperation between Canadian Institutes and Tra Vinh University has brought many successes in fields of education, economy and career development of the people of Tra Vinh province and the Mekong Delta. In particular, thanks to the support from the Embassy and the Consulate General of Canada to Vietnam, many opportunities have been created for the development of innovative start-up projects among students. In addition, the university always focuses on encouraging students to participate in creative start-up activities, concretizing ideas with start-up projects towards community benefits.”

At the meeting, Mr. Bez Babakhani, Consul General of Canada to Vietnam, expressed his sincere thanks to Tra Vinh University for the warmest welcome. Besides, he was also impressed with the current success of Tra Vinh University. It is a testament to the friendship between the governments and peoples of the two countries, confirming that the contribution of the Canadian government and people has created meaningful change for the people of Tra Vinh province as well as for Tra Vinh University.

Mr. Brian Allemekinders, Development Cooperation Counselor of the Embassy of Canada to Vietnam, shared: “This is the first time that the Embassy and the Consulate General of Canada to Viet Nam have visited and worked at TVU simultaneously. The visit has expressed our respect for the cooperative relationship between the two sides and demonstrated the stable commitment from the Canadian government agencies for the long-term support to the development of Tra Vinh province and Tra Vinh University. The current model of Tra Vinh University is the origin of the Canadian Community-University model, helping to access skill teaching and training, bringing to the labor market skilled and professional workers. At the same time, it helps to connect the needs between businesses and education and training institutions”.

On this occasion, the delegation of the Embassy and the Consulate General of Canada to Viet Nam also proposed activities to celebrate the 50th anniversary of diplomatic relations between Vietnam and Canada in 2023. They also suggested considering Tra Vinh University as a model for successfully establishing a cooperative and mutually supportive relationship between the peoples and the governments of the two countries.
