Tra Vinh University holds Macchabée Ceremony: Honoring Body Donors to medical science

(TVU) – On December 31, the School of Medicine and Pharmacy at Tra Vinh University conducts the Macchabée Ceremony to honor body donors to medical science, with hundreds of students gathering to express gratitude to these noble individuals who have donated their bodies for medical education.

The ceremony welcomes distinguished guests, including Dr. Le Quang Tuyen, Head of the Anatomy Department at Pham Ngoc Thach Medical University; Dr. Nguyen Thanh Van, Director of Thanh Van Aesthetic Hospital; and faculty representatives from the Anatomy Departments of various universities: Pham Ngoc Thach Medical University, Ho Chi Minh City University of Medicine and Pharmacy, and Nguyen Tat Thanh University.

Tra Vinh University’s representatives include Dr. Phan Quoc Nghia, Vice President of Tra Vinh University; Distinguished Teacher, Professor Dr. Ta Van Tram, Director of Tien Giang General Hospital and Dean of the School of Medicine and Pharmacy; along with the school’s board of directors, faculty members, staff, and students.

 

The Macchabée Ceremony is an annual tradition at Tra Vinh University’s School of Medicine and Pharmacy that demonstrates respect and gratitude to body donors, while educating students about the noble value of these contributions to science.

In his speech, Dr. Doan Duong Chi Thien, Vice Dean of the School of Medicine and Pharmacy, expresses profound respect and sincere gratitude to those who have donated their bodies for medical education and research. Their sacrifice represents a significant contribution to medical advancement and meets the community’s growing healthcare needs. The Macchabée Ceremony serves as an occasion for gratitude and a reminder to medical students of their responsibility to protect and care for community health.

In a solemn and grateful atmosphere, Dr. Truong Pham Huynh Nghi, representing the Anatomy Department, recites a memorial text honoring the body donors: “Your sacrifice transforms into knowledge; generations will forever remember your profound grace; though time may fade, your noble deed remains eternally etched in our hearts.”

Representing the medical students, Tran Van Kim Hoan, a 2023 medical student, shares emotionally: “Body donation to medical science is a deeply humanitarian act, a silent sacrifice worthy of honor and gratitude. I hope future generations of anatomy students will preserve and express profound gratitude, creating even more meaningful value for society. Let this noble sacrifice be the motivation to strive and become the most worthy physicians.”

Following the ceremony, the board of directors, faculty, and students proceed to the anatomy laboratory to offer incense, a sacred ritual expressing deep gratitude to these “silent teachers” who have contributed to medical advancement.
