Tra Vinh University holds seminar on digital safety and personal data protection in higher education

TVU – On the afternoon of August 21, 2025, Tra Vinh University coordinates with partner organizations to host the seminar “Digital Safety and Personal Data Protection in the Context of Digital Transformation in Higher Education.” The event is part of the Soaring project, an international cooperation initiative on digital transformation in education funded by the British Council.

The seminar welcomes representatives from Viettel Vinh Long, including Mr. Trinh Nhat Luom and Mr. Pham Thai Hoc from the Education Product Division, and Mr. Tran Thai Duc, Cybersecurity Specialist at Viettel Network. Representing Tra Vinh University are Dr. Phan Quoc Nghia, Vice Rector; Dr. Tieu Thanh Thuy, Director of the Center of Excellence in Learning Resources and Innovation and Soaring Project Coordinator; and Ms. Nguyen Thi Mai Khanh, Head of the Office of International Collaboration and Co-Coordinator of the project, along with leaders of university units, faculty members, and students. The seminar gathers more than 200 participants.

In his opening speech, Dr. Phan Quoc Nghia emphasizes that in the era of digital transformation and artificial intelligence, personal data is increasingly valuable but also faces high risks of attack and leakage. He notes that the seminar creates an opportunity for leaders, lecturers, and students to strengthen awareness and knowledge of digital safety, supporting the university’s digital transformation strategy.

At the seminar, Dr. Tieu Thanh Thuy introduces the Soaring project, a partnership among four universities in the United Kingdom and Vietnam: Bournemouth University, British University Vietnam, University of Economics Ho Chi Minh City, and Tra Vinh University. Funded by the British Council under the Going Global Partnerships program, the project aims to promote successful digital transformation in Vietnamese higher education by developing digital transformation centers, spreading innovation, and enhancing leadership and change management practices.

In his presentation, Mr. Tran Thai Duc from Viettel warns that cyber threats are becoming increasingly sophisticated, including online scams, identity theft, data leaks, and the misuse of AI and deepfake technology. He highlights that personal data in higher education – such as digital transcripts, electronic certificates, and student or faculty information – are vulnerable targets. He recommends that individuals use strong passwords, activate multi-factor authentication, remain cautious with suspicious emails and messages, and update software regularly. For institutions, he stresses the importance of implementing security policies, providing digital safety training, investing in technology infrastructure, and establishing incident-response procedures to protect data during digital transformation.

In her closing remarks, Ms. Nguyen Thi Mai Khanh, representing the Soaring project management board, thanks the faculty members, experts, and Viettel representatives for their time and valuable contributions.

The seminar delivers practical insights that enhance awareness and skills in personal data protection for faculty and students, supporting Tra Vinh University in successfully advancing its digital transformation goals.
