TVU – On July 29, the School of Southern Khmer Language, Culture, Arts, and Humanities (SLASKA), under Tra Vinh University, organizes a meeting to honor Venerable Doctor Danh Ut, who is the first doctorate in the Southwest of Vietnam, majoring in cultural studies.
The honoring ceremony is attended by Assoc. Prof. Dr. Pham Tiet Khanh – Chairman of the School Council; Dr. Thach Thi Dan – Vice-Rector of Tra Vinh University; Dr. Ngo So Phe, Principal of SLASKA; Venerable Doctor Thach On – Preak Mekon Khmer Theravada Buddhism of Tra Vinh Province, Head of the Buddhist Education Department of Tra Vinh Provincial Association; other Venerables and Buddhists from the provinces of Kien Giang, An Giang, Vinh Long, Can Tho; and representatives of leaders of departments and units inside and outside the province.
During the ceremony, Assoc. Prof. Dr. Pham Tiet Khanh highly appreciates the research results of Venerable Doctor Danh Ut. He describes Venerable Danh Ut’s doctoral thesis as a high-level scientific product, providing specific solutions, and contributing to the general development of the cultural life of Khmer Theravada Buddhist monks and the social life in the Khmer Buddhist community in the Southwest.
Currently, Venerable Doctor Danh Ut holds the position of Abbot at Thon Don Pagoda, Member of the Standing Committee of Provincial Association, Deputy Head of the Executive Board of the Vietnam Buddhist Sangha in Rach Gia City, and Standing Vice Chairman of the Ho Chi Minh City Patriotic Monk Association in Rach Gia, Kien Giang province.
His doctoral thesis focuses on the changes in the cultural life of Khmer Theravada Buddhist monks in the Southwest today. The achievements of Dr. Venerable Danh Ut serve as an example of studiousness and motivation for monks and Buddhists in the Khmer community.
