Tra Vinh University team wins Third Prize at MECA 2024 with Automated Tet Cake Wrapping Machine

(TVU) – The finals of the Mitsubishi Electric Cup 2024 (MECA 2024) take place today at Can Tho University, featuring 20 teams from 13 higher education institutions nationwide. The Tra Vinh University team secures third place with their project “Research and Development of an Automated Tet Cake Wrapping Machine.”

The competition, organized by Mitsubishi Electric Vietnam in collaboration with Can Tho University, attracts engineering students from 13 universities, including Tra Vinh University, Can Tho University, and Hanoi University of Science and Technology.

Tra Vinh University’s team presents two projects: the “Automated Tet Cake Wrapping Machine” by Lam Huu Luong, Thach Mai, Chau Chi Nhan, and Le Minh Hai, and the “Automated Medicine Dispenser” by Nguyen Phuc Hau, Lam Quoc Kien, Le Thi Truc Ly, and Mai Thien Nhan.

The organizers report that teams design and construct a practical project model during preparation. Teams operate their models in the finals and present them to the judges.

Judges evaluate the projects based on criteria including creativity, practical application, technical complexity, environmental protection solutions, smart automation solutions, operational accuracy and stability, aesthetic appeal, and the team’s presentation skills and technical knowledge.

Lam Huu Luong, the project team leader, explains that their machine uses Mitsubishi PLC programming to control the system, features an HMI interface design, and employs Mitsubishi motors with encoders and precise Servo Motor control. The machine’s advantages include increased productivity, high-quality products, labor cost savings, easy operation, food hygiene safety, and a rapid wrapping time of 60 seconds per product.

The Mitsubishi Electric Cup Automation competition allows students to experience factory automation equipment, programming software, and industrial robots supplied by Mitsubishi Electric. It also allows students to apply theoretical knowledge to practical situations, develop teamwork skills, and enhance creativity and problem-solving abilities.

Through this competition, students can assess their capabilities, improve their ability to apply knowledge in practical settings, and increase their competitiveness in the job market, particularly as Vietnam integrates into the ASEAN Economic Community.
