Minister of Education and Training Nguyen Kim Son visits and works at Tra Vinh University in the afternoon of February 24, while on a business trip to Tra Vinh Province.
Accompanying the delegation are Ms. Nguyen Thu Thuy, Director General of the Higher Education Department, Mr. Tran Thanh Dam, Director General of the Planning and Finance Department, and members of the Ministry of Education and Training.
Also, there are Prof. Dr. Pham Tiet Khanh, Chairman of the University Council, and Assoc. Prof., Dr. Nguyen Minh Hoa, Rector of Tra Vinh University, along with Vice Rectors and leaders of the university.
A significant contribution to human resources in Tra Vinh and the Mekong Delta
According to Assoc. Prof., Dr. Nguyen Minh Hoa, Rector of Tra Vinh University, the current campus area of Tra Vinh University is 49.8 hectares, with a gross floor area of nearly 41,000 square meters. There are over 200 classrooms and lecture halls, 29 computer labs, and more than 140 laboratories, for a total area of 48,279 square meters. In essence, the facilities of the university are sufficient for research, teaching, and learning purposes.
Tra Vinh University contains one school board and two school councils; two schools, eleven faculties and training units; sixteen functional departments; nine centers, and many affiliated units at Tra Vinh University. Currently, there are around 1,200 employees and lecturers, with over 76% of them holding master’s degrees.
Assoc. Prof., Dr. Nguyen Minh Hoa reports that Tra Vinh University is the only local university among the first 23 public higher education institutions in the country to pilot university autonomy under Resolution 77/2014/NQ-CP. To date, the university has been implementing autonomy in terms of organizational structure and personnel, and finance and property under Decree No. 99/2019/ND-CP.
Tra Vinh University offers over 120 programs in different types of training, including full-time, part-time, university transfer, online, and distance learning. By 2023, the university has drawn over 25,000 students from all around the nation.
In details, there are more than 1,130 postgraduate students, 10,230 full-time students, 1,70 college students, 3,460 part-time students, and 14,270 students enrolled in distance learning programs. Besides, Tra Vinh University has trained 158 international students from Cambodia thus far.
The university has provided tens of thousands of workers at different levels, contributing to the stability and development of education, economy, culture, and society in Tra Vinh and the Mekong Delta.
In terms of scientific research, 283 projects were carried out between January 2018 and December 2023, including 5 projects at the nation level, 4 at the minister level, 20 at the province level, and 254 at the university level. 96 of them were operated by students.
In addition, 52 technical consultation, technology transfer, and community service projects have been carried out by Tra Vinh University. Furthermore, lecturers at the university are active in publishing their scientific research in esteemed local and international journals. Among 1,580 published papers, 321 of which are in ISI/Scopus journals, 64 in international journals with independent reviews, and 1,195 in domestic journals with an ISSN index.

Development orientation in line with local advantages and human resource demand
Speaking at the meeting, Minister Nguyen Kim Son states his happiness with the advancement in terms of facilities, training areas, staff, enrolment, and international relations at Tra Vinh University.
The Minister also expresses his appreciation for the excellent accomplishments of the university, as well as for the special attention and support of the province to education and training in general and Tra Vinh University in particular.
Minister Nguyen Kim Son emphasizes Tra Vinh University’s rapid success and its continued growth potential. He recommends the university choose a development path that goes along with the local and regional advantages as well as the demands for human resources. The university’s strongest features-education, the Khmer language, and agriculture-forestry-aquaculture, for example, need to be focused on.
