(TVU) – 9X male student Bui Trung Vinh (Vinh Art) has a talent for drawing vivid portraits with pencils, surprising viewers.

Although Vinh is a final year student of chemical engineering class at Tra Vinh University, he has an endless passion for pencil portrait painting. After he posted his works on social networks, he immediately received “rain” of praise from the online community.

Vinh shared that his idol is the famous American painter Heather Rooney, who has a talent for painting portraits with superior techniques. Vinh said: “Knowing my idol through social media channels, I feel passionate. With my inherent talent, I watched the clip and taught myself to draw since 11th grade until now”.

When Vinh first started to draw, he did not know the technique well, his paintings were not like the character. Money saved, Vinh invested all in buying paper and pencils to draw. With perseverance, Vinh’s pencil portraits came to life and were praised by teachers and friends.

Use a pencil to draw the character’s emotions

At present, Vinh can draw eye-catching portraits with a pencil. That conveys the true character of each character.

Vinh said that the time to draw each picture usually takes about 3-5 days, depending on the level of meticulousness and investment. He often uses HB, 2B, 4B, 6B, 8B pencils, colleen crayons, Prismacolor pencils, Faber Castell, Staedtler charcoal pencils and markers, etc.

The models are to paint portraits mostly of girls with gentle and innocent beauty. In addition, He also draws pictures of many famous artists, actors, and sports athletes at home and abroad.

Vinh said that to draw portraits with a pencil, one must first estimate the proportions or sketch a grid on the paper and the original photo for the correct proportions. Usually, draw the eyes, nose, mouth and then move on to other details. Especially, to paint details such as eyelashes, eyebrows, hair, he must sharpen a pencil. Vinh said: “Details with a lot of black colors are often drawn last to avoid smearing on other parts. The white details are usually left white or use a white gel pen to draw. Other color details are drawn according to perspective, light and dark, dark and light, blurred or clear.”

To complete the perfect product, talent is only one part, the most important thing is still meticulousness and patience in every smallest detail so that the painting becomes real.
