TVU students won the third prize in the 2023 National Innovative Startup Idea Contest

On December 7, 2023, The project “S2M – Leather from mango peels” of a group of five students from Tra Vinh University won the third prize in the 2023 National Innovative Startup Ideas – RnD to Startup 2023 Contest held in Ha Noi National University.

This contest in the field of biotechnology was projected by an author group, including Nguyen Thi Thanh Van (the project leader), majoring in Finance and Banking, class of 2019; Nguyen Thanh Hanh Nguyen, student of English Language, class of 2020; Nguyen Viet Khanh Hung, student of Biotechnology, class of 2022; Nguyen Nhat Minh, majoring in Information Technology, class of 2022; and Nguyen Thanh Nguyen, Student of Dentomaxillofacial, class of 2022.

The contest jury included Mr. Nguyen Hoa Binh (Shark Binh), Chairman of the Board of Directors of NextTech Group; Mr. Pham Thanh Hung (Shark Hung), Vice Chairman of the Board of Directors of Cen Group; Mr. Nguyen Thanh Nam, Former General Director of FPT Corporation, founder of FUNiX; Dr. Doan Duc Minh, Former Deputy General Director of PVcombank, founder of Ami&M Vietnam Group; and Ms. Katie Nguyen, Deputy General Director of Sunwah Innovations, Chief Representative of Sunwah Group in Ho Chi Minh City.

The S2M – Leather from mango peel project by the students of Tra Vinh University won the third prize after the pitching section –  a presentation based on a summary of creative requirements to convince investors and answer critical questions in front of the board of jury.

The project was an idea that contributed to minimizing the environmental impact of the leather industry. This biological leather product had similar features to real leather and met the same quality and durability requirements as products made from leather. The project also aimed to meet customers’ aesthetic needs while ensuring environmental protection and minimizing the use of natural leather from animals.

The “National Innovative Startup Ideas” – RnD to Startup 2023 contest was organized by the Centre for Enabling Startups and Knowledge Transfer, Hanoi National University, with the companionship and sponsorship of Sunwah Innovation, advice, and support from experts, business associations, incubators, and domestic and foreign investment funds.
The first prize was awarded to the HUPTECH team for the idea of TechNexa Automatic food fermentation system – duangon2h; The second prize belonged to FAST V – Short video creation platform applying Artificial Intelligence; the third prize was awarded to 02 teams: S2M – Leather from mango peel and ALLOEH – Aloe vera gel patch to support first aid for first and second degree burns; and the consolation prizes belonged to the teams of UNETI- APP DSI; SKY – HELPER; HIEWRITING – the IELTS Writing task 2 correction software using Large Language Models and Generative AI; CARPETS.
