The 2026 Long Chau Ward Open Taekwondo Club Championship took place from January 30 to February 1, in a vibrant atmosphere at the Vinh Long Provincial Sports Training and Competition Center.
The event was organized by the Public Service Center under the People’s Committee of Long Chau Ward to celebrate the 96th anniversary of the founding of the Communist Party of Vietnam (February 3, 1930 – February 3, 2026); to celebrate national renewal, the glorious Party, and the Lunar New Year 2026; and to continue responding to the movement “All people exercise following the example of President Ho Chi Minh,” thereby promoting the widespread development of grassroots sports and improving public health.
This year’s tournament attracted 24 participating units from within and outside Vinh Long province, with more than 500 athletes across four age groups: U12, U14, U17, and T17 (over 17 years old).

The TVU Taekwondo Team consisted of 14 athletes competing in the T17 category across 12 events, including men’s individual sparring in the under-45 kg, 51 kg, 54 kg, 58 kg, 63 kg, 68 kg, 74 kg, and over-74 kg weight classes; women’s individual sparring in the under-46 kg, 49 kg, 53 kg, 57 kg, and 62 kg weight classes; and men’s individual standard poomsae. The team was coached by Mr. Nguyen Ngoc Tuan, Head of the Taekwondo Martial Arts Club.
Over the three days of competition, the athletes delivered exciting and dramatic matches, featuring powerful and visually impressive poomsae performances and board-breaking techniques. Notably, the performances of athletes from the TVU Taekwondo Club consistently attracted strong attention and support from spectators.

Mr. Nguyen Ngoc Tuan, Head of the TVU Taekwondo Martial Arts Club, stated that the tournament helped assess the club’s training movement and contributed to motivating and encouraging Taekwondo practice and competition among students. This, in turn, helps improve health, develop physical fitness, and support comprehensive education, while also creating opportunities for the university’s athletes to exchange experiences and learn from clubs within and outside the province.

At the conclusion of the tournament, the TVU Team earned 1 gold medal, 4 silver medals, and 4 bronze medals.
With a sportsmanlike spirit of unity and integrity, athletes of the TVU Taekwondo Martial Arts Club have consistently dedicated themselves and strived for the club’s overall development. Despite spending significant time on training and competition, the university has always created favorable conditions to support students in balancing their academic programs with their passion for training and participation in competitions both within and outside the province.
As a result, many outstanding athletes have emerged, such as Nguyen Thi Hong Thanh, Huynh Quoc Huy, and Nguyen Ngoc Nhu, who have achieved numerous awards at regional, provincial, and national tournaments. These include winning 2 gold medals, 1 silver medal, and 3 bronze medals at the 3rd Viet Long Open Taekwondo Championship – Viet Lam Cup in 2020; placing first overall with 5 gold medals, 2 silver medals, and 5 bronze medals at the Tra Vinh Provincial Taekwondo Championship in 2023; and winning 6 medals at the National Student Taekwondo Championship in 2024.
With their passion for martial arts, there remains ample time ahead for club athletes to continue learning, accumulating experience, training, refining skills, and improving competition strategies to conquer new heights and participate in major sporting events.
