May 19, 2021, in order to implement the project of improving English ability for students, Tra Vinh University cooperated with Ho Chi Minh Communist Youth Union (HCYU) Central Committee to celebrate the Student English Festival 2021 which presented different contents including the seminar “Improving English ability for students”, the contest of Ring Golden Bell and scholarship awarding to 20 excellent and miserable students.
Attending the festival, there were the attendances of representatives from Ho Chi Minh Communist Youth Union (HCYU) Central Committee including Mr. Nguyen Ngoc Luong, Secretary of HCYU Central Executive Committee, Mr. Nguyen Hai Minh, Member of the Standing Committee, Head of the International Committee of HCYU Central Committee, Mr. Le Hai Long, Member of the Standing Committee, Deputy Head of the Central Children’s Affairs of HCYU Central Executive Committee, representative of Tra Vinh Provincial Youth Union – Mr. Tran Chi Cuong, Secretary of Tra Vinh Provincial Youth Union and representative of Tra Vinh University – Mr. Nguyen Minh Hoa, Deputy Secretary of the Party Committee, Vice-Rector of Tra Vinh University.
At the seminar, Ms. Tran Hoang Khanh Van, Vice President of Ho Chi Minh City Union of Friendship Organizations shared her knowledge on skills for international integration in the context of industrial revolution 4.0, English skills and other foreign language skills. She also mentioned to the factors that young people need for international integration, in which foreign languages play an important role to step out into the world, followed by skills of applying practical knowledge in the working environment and young people’s attitude.
Mr. Hoang Minh Thong, Academic Director of EdSpace from Learn With Tom Education and Training Services Co., Ltd, shared his experiences on the effective English learning methodology. Thinking, motivation and perseverance are three essential factors for learning a foreign language while the three characteristics required to have an effective learning method are making sure that the contents of listening, speaking, reading and writing will be within comprehension; making reiteration in the learning process to create a native recognition capacity; and having concentration. In addition, he also pointed out the role of learners in solving difficulties in learning foreign languages as well as some free and effective websites for students to practice listening, speaking, reading and writing skills.
At the end of the program, the contest named “Ring the Golden Bell” was taken place with the final results including two consolation prizes, one third prize, one second prize and one first prize. In which the third, the second, and the first prizes were awarded to Ngo Quoc Vinh, student of Nguyen Thien Thanh High School for the Gifted; Nguyen Vo Ngu Binh, student of Nguyen Thien Thanh High School for the Gifted; Son Thanh Toan, a student from Tra Vinh Province’s Ethnic Minority High School; respectively. At the same time, the program awarded prizes for the provincial online English Olympic competition.
