TVU – The Tra Vinh King Sejong Institute organized the 2023 Korean Speaking Contest at the Hall of the School of Agriculture and Aquaculture, Campus 1 of Tra Vinh University, on the evening of July 28, looking for contestants to represent Tra Vinh province in the national Korean Speaking Contest.
The Korean Speaking Contest, which serves as a playground for both their students and Korean lovers, is conducted annually by King Sejong Institutes in local areas and the main office in Ho Chi Minh City. The first-place winner will travel to Korea to participate in the National Korean Speaking Contest, which is run by the Korean Embassy.
Director of the Tra Vinh King Sejong Institute, Dr. Chau Thi Hoang Hoa, stated that the contest offered students an environment to demonstrate their skills, hone their courage, and gain confidence. Additionally, this provided students with a chance to deepen their understanding of Korean culture, society, and people.
Each contestant presented their speech for 3 to 4 minutes in front of the jury during the contest. Participants had to pick one of two subjects, including “Difference between Korea that I see and Korea that Koreans see” and “The city I would like to visit in Korea and the city I would like to introduce.”
The candidates offered a variety of content in their performances to the competition, showcasing their talents and knowledge of the Korean people, the nation, the culture, and especially the cultural connection between the two countries, Vietnam and Korea.
Mr. Park Jong Arm, a teacher at the Tra Vinh King Sejong Institute who spoke on behalf of the jury, praised the participants for their performances were filled with a diversity of information, clear pronunciation, and accurate portrayals of Vietnamese and Korean cultures.
At the end of the contest, the organizing committee gave one first prize, 1 second prize, 1 third prize, and 9 consolation awards to the candidates who performed the best based on pronunciation, vocabulary, grammar, content, fluency, and creativity.
