Tra Vinh University organizes workshop to strengthen Khmer language program

On July 5, Tra Vinh University organizes a workshop focused on enhancing the Khmer Language program by identifying and strengthening the professional skills required of university-level graduates. The event brings together administrators, education experts, recruiters, experienced professionals, and alumni, with the shared goal of improving program quality to better meet labor market demands.

The workshop welcomes representatives from a variety of organizations within and beyond the province, including the Vinh Long Department of Ethnic and Religious Affairs, Tra Vinh Pali-Khmer Intermediate School, and schools in An Giang and Can Tho. Representatives from international consulting firms and media outlets also take part. Tra Vinh University is represented by the Rector and faculty members from the College of Southern Khmer Language–Culture–Arts and Humanities (CLASKA).

In her opening remarks, Dr. Nguyen Thi Hue, Vice Rector of CLASKA, underscores the significance of the workshop in strengthening connections between the university, employers, experts, and alumni. She emphasizes the need to collect valuable feedback to refine the Khmer Language curriculum, recognizing the program’s deep cultural, historical, and societal importance.

Dr. Dang Dieu Minh Tan, Head of the Quality Assurance Department at Tra Vinh University, leads the discussions. He reaffirms the university’s commitment to transparency and collaboration, and highlights the importance of aligning the program with evolving industry requirements.

Mr. Ngo Phu Hai presents an overview of the professional skills framework for Khmer language graduates. Participants then engage in comprehensive discussions on the key competencies and attributes that graduates should possess—particularly in the fields of media, education, translation, and ethnic and religious affairs.

Nearly 50 recruiters, professionals, and alumni contribute their insights and practical recommendations. Their input serves as an important foundation for adjusting and improving the curriculum, ensuring the university produces highly qualified graduates who meet the growing need for Khmer language expertise across various sectors.
