TRA VINH, SEP 5, 2014 – In the morning of August 28, 67 school teachers of English attended the inaugural session of the CEFR-Level B1 course at the Department of Education in Tra Vinh. Faculty of the TVU school of Foreign Languages will train these local teachers who are required by law to reach the minimal level of B1 according to the CEFR.

Focused on the Level B1 of the CEFR, the course is resulted from an agreement between the provincial Department of Education (DOE) and Tra Vinh University, which calls for the training of public school teachers of English.
As part of the agreement with the DOE, the TVU School of Foreign Languages (SFL) will also provide training, ongoing follow-up and evaluation to assess students’ progress for all designated DOE teaching staff who are currently teaching English at primary and high schools in Tra Vinh province.
The SFL assigned four instructors to provide training, including one American teacher, all are qualified from North America, Norway, and Australia universities.
Dr. Nguyen Thi Phuong Nam, Dean of the School of Foreign Languages, said: ‘The School has taken extra care in selecting highly qualified instructors to teach. We are pleased to be part of this collaborative project that can have a long-lasting impact on ways English is taught and learnt.’
Mr. Dung Nguyen, manager of the DOE’s Centre for Education, noted that the DOE is always concerned with upgrading English language skills for local teachers in public schools to the minimal levels as required by the Ministry of Education and Training.
This B1 course combines 200 hours of English language study. Upon completion, participants will take a Cambridge English language exam at B1-level administered and marked by Cambridge English Language Assessment.
Unlike other national universities, the TVU School of Foreign Languages provides English language training while the administration of all exams at B1-C2 levels is handled by Cambridge Assessment to ensure international standard quality control.
