GD&TD – On the afternoon of March 1, Tra Vinh University held a ceremony to announce the Decision to establish the School of Medicine and Pharmacy, and rank Tra Vinh University Hospital Level II.
The School of Medicine and Pharmacy of Tra Vinh University was established according to Decision No. 13, dated December 29th, 2023, of the Chairman of the Council of Tra Vinh University, based on merging the Faculty of Medicine – Pharmacy and the Faculty of Odonto-Stomatology. People’s Physician – Professor – Doctor Ta Van Tram took on the Principal of the School of Medicine and Pharmacy position.
Tra Vinh University’s School of Medicine and Pharmacy is a specialized unit that trains medical human resources and does scientific research toward clinical application to become an excellent, creative, and adaptive school institute model in the area.
The School of Medicine and Pharmacy offers multidisciplinary and inter-disciplinary training in the field of health sciences, research and transfer of science and technology; developing science and technology applications to serve the community; applying the school-institute model in close association with the system of Hospitals, Medical Centers and Medical Stations in the region.
The school is the 4th member school of Tra Vinh University, after the School of Economics – Law, School of Southern Khmer Language – Culture – Arts and Humanities, and School of Pedagogical Practice.
Speaking at the ceremony, Associate Professor. Dr. Nguyen Minh Hoa – Rector of Tra Vinh University, said: “The establishment of the School of Medicine and Pharmacy aims to implement the general development strategy of Tra Vinh University, including the orientation to develop into a university according to the model of advanced universities in the world. At the same time, improve the training of medical human resources, meeting the comprehensive health care needs of the people.”
“The school staff believes that the development of Tra Vinh University Hospital and School of Medicine and Pharmacy will bring breakthroughs in community health care as well as new advances in training activities, research, and international cooperation in the field of health sciences.” – Associate Professor, Dr. Nguyen Minh Hoa added.
At the ceremony, Tra Vinh University announced the Decision of the Chairman of the Provincial People’s Committee to rank Tra Vinh University Hospital Level II.
Tra Vinh University Hospital was established and developed based on the General Clinic of Tra Vinh University, with a total area of 13,000 m2 and a VND investment of nearly 200 billion.
After more than five years of operation and development, the total number of permanent staff is 172, including 51 doctors (4 specialists II, 3 Masters, 8 specialists I, and 36 university graduates), 13 pharmacists, 57 nurses, 6 midwives, 16 medical technicians and physicians, and 29 other positions. The organizational structure includes the hospital’s Board of Directors, 5 functional and 16 specialized departments.
In addition to the main function of medical examination and treatment, Tra Vinh University Hospital is also a practical training facility for health science students at Tra Vinh University, doing scientific research, participating in research projects on public health, epidemiology in primary health care, coordinating with medical facilities in the province to regularly perform disease prevention tasks, epidemic prevention, propagandizing and educating health matter for the community.

At the ceremony, a memorandum of understanding was signed between Tra Vinh University Hospital and hospitals under the Ho Chi Minh City Department of Health: Children’s Hospital 1; Binh Dan Hospital; Hung Vuong Hospital; Ho Chi Minh City ENT Hospital; Ho Chi Minh City Eye Hospital. |
