TVU – August 3, 2001, marks a significant milestone in the educational history of Tra Vinh province with the establishment of Tra Vinh Community College, the predecessor of Tra Vinh University (founded on June 19, 2006). The institution is born with a mission to provide learning and development opportunities for the local community, especially for young people in rural and remote areas.

From its modest beginnings, when students and teachers had to cross rivers by boat to reach the campus, Tra Vinh University has transformed into a modern institution with state-of-the-art facilities. Today, it boasts four member schools, over 13 faculties and institutes, and nearly 20,000 students.
Tra Vinh University today:
The university now offers 10 doctoral programs, 19 master’s programs, 9 first-level specialist programs, 1 second-level specialist program, and 51 undergraduate majors. Since 2013, TVU has welcomed international students from Cambodia and Laos, with nearly 100 currently enrolled.
TVU has achieved international accreditation for 19 educational programs, including 11 programs accredited by AUN-QA, 7 by FIBAA, and 1 by ABET. This places it among the top universities in the Mekong Delta region for internationally accredited programs.
TVU has also gained recognition in global rankings, including the UI GreenMetric Ranking for sustainable development and the WURI Ranking for positive social impact. It ranks 42nd in the Top 100 WURI Ranking, leading in categories such as culture and innovation promotion, AI application, and educational investment.
Looking ahead, Tra Vinh University aims to:
(1) Develop an advanced university model tailored to the Mekong Delta region’s characteristics.
(2) Enhance applied research and technology transfer to the community.
(3) Promote entrepreneurship and innovation.
(4) Expand international cooperation, particularly in Khmer language, culture, and arts education.
(5) Develop Tra Vinh University Hospital to serve the community and provide advanced medical treatments.
As it celebrates its founding anniversaries on August 3 and June 19 each year, Tra Vinh University reflects on its achievements and sets new goals.
