TVU – The King Sejong Institute at Tra Vinh University is holding its 2024 Korean Speaking and Writing Competition on June 28, 2023.
In attendance are Dr. Chau Thi Hoang Hoa, Director of King Sejong Institute Tra Vinh and Head of Department of Project Promotion at Tra Vinh University; Mr. Park Jong Arm, Managing Director of King Sejong Institute Tra Vinh; and teachers Ms. Kim Joung Won and Mr. Park Sung Young.
Mr. Park Jong Arm states that the Korean speaking and writing competition is held annually at local King Sejong Institutes and the headquarters in Ho Chi Minh City. This year’s contest is taking place in 84 countries, attracting numerous participants.
The competition features both writing and speaking components. For the writing section, contestants write in Korean on grid paper, producing 200-800 characters on one of two optional topics: “What I’ve gained from learning Korean” or “My first impressions and images of Korea.”
In the speaking portion, participants deliver a 1-4 minute presentation to the judges, with the option to use slides. The optional topics for this section include “The moment I felt most amazing” and “A unique Korean cultural experience I’ve had.”
In the final results, Pham Tran Yen Vy claims first place in the writing competition, with Nguyen Thi Thu Huyen and Phan Thi Minh Thuy taking second place. For the speaking contest, Tran Thao Nguyen secures first place, while Vo Hanh Nhung and Nguyen Thi Tuyet Ngan share second place.
In addition to the prizes, all participants receive a certificate of “cultural program participation” from the King Sejong Institute Tra Vinh.
Pham Quoc Binh, a medical laboratory technology student, shares that the competition serves as a beneficial platform for improving Korean language skills and cultural knowledge. He notes that it provides an opportunity for students to interact and learn from others who share a passion for the Korean language and to explore Korean culture, country, and people.
