New insights emerge from Scientific conference on “Southern Vietnamese Culture – Theoretical and Practical Issues”

TVU – Tra Vinh University hosts the 2nd Scientific Conference on “Southern Vietnamese Culture – Theoretical and Practical Issues” today, attracting researchers, scientists, students, and scholars nationwide.

The conference serves as a platform for Tra Vinh University to enhance research collaboration opportunities with institutions nationwide. It draws significant interest, with over 50 papers submitted by authors from various organizations, including the Department of Culture, Sports and Tourism of Dong Thap Province, and universities such as Ho Chi Minh City University of Social Sciences and Humanity, and An Giang University.

Attendees at the conference include Dr. Thach Thi Dan, Vice Rector of Tra Vinh University; Dr. Ngo So Phe, Principal of the School of Southern Khmer Language, Culture, Arts, and Humanity; and representatives from the school’s leadership. Cultural experts, graduate students, and doctoral candidates are also in attendance.

Key topics discussed include:

(1) Summarizing achievements and challenges in Southern Vietnamese cultural research

(2) Identifying theoretical and practical issues in the field

(3) Affirming the current cultural values of the Southern region

(4) Proposing solutions to enhance regional cultural characteristics in education, tourism, and technology applications

(5) Addressing the preservation and promotion of Vietnamese and Southern cultural values in the new era

(6) Examining practical issues of environmental and social-cultural interactions

(7) Discussing cultural elements such as language, religion, customs, literature, arts, and cultural heritage

The conference highlights the role of educational institutions in cultural heritage education and the importance of media in promoting Southern Vietnamese cultural values. It also addresses the economic impact of cultural preservation through tourism and sustainable development.

Notable presentations include studies on cultural symbols in contemporary Khmer poetry, the significance of Khmer boat launching ceremonies, and the role of television in preserving and promoting Southern Vietnamese folk music.

Tra Vinh University, the only institution in Vietnam tasked with training specialists in Southern Khmer language, culture, and arts, recently received recognition in the World Universities with Real Impact (WURI) rankings. The university ranks at the top of the B5 (WURI Culture/Value) index, emphasizing its commitment to cultural preservation and innovation.

This Conference contributes to raising cultural awareness and bridges theory and practice, aligning with the national goal of comprehensive cultural development as a foundation for social progress and national strength.
