Prof.Dr. Brian Dick working as a volunteer at Faculty of Engineering and Technology of TVU

Prof.Dr. Brian Dick – Professor and Chair from Department of Physics, Engineering and Astronomy, Vancouver Island University (VIU), Canada has worked as a volunteer at TVU from February 6th to April 24th, 2012. He has had three working visits to TVU and helped the Faculty of Engineering and Technology of TVU with many activities in the four past years. During the working trip at the Faculty, he has participated in many activities, especially the professional support. Here are the major activities of Prof. Dr. Brian Dick:1. Being the presenter at some workshops On March 2nd, 2012, the workshop on the topic “Stimulating the thoughts on Robots” was held at the Faculty of Engineering and Technology with the attendance of leaders of offices and departments of TVU, leaders, lecturers and students of the Faculty of Engineering and Technology.


At the workshop, Prof. Dr. Brian Dick introduced the applications of different kinds of robots in science and real life. His presentation helped students in choosing appropriate equipment to make simple robots for working demands. At the workshop, Mr. Nguyen Thanh Tan- Lecturer of Department of Electronics – Telecommunication reviewed the achievements of “Robocon contest 2011” and launched the “Robocon contest 2012” for students majoring in technology.  The students had a chance to watch the video clips and real pictures of the robots made by students in the last year contest.  2. Teaching and supporting professional knowledge For the long-term cooperation between the two universities, two lecturers from the Faculty of Engineering and Technology were designated to share as well as to acquire professional knowledge from Prof. Dr. Brian Dick during his working time at the Faculty.

Besides, he has also guided a group of fourteen students of class Electronics 2009. With the guidance of Prof. Brian, students not only get the knowledge of their major but also have a chance to improve their English and feel more confident in communicating with foreigners. He has also given much experience for lecturers of the faculty at the workshop held on March 8th, 2012.

Besides the professional activities, Prof. Dr. Brian Dick has taken part in many sport activities with the students and lecturers of the faculty. The activities of Prof. Dr. Brian Dick at TVU are very helpful to students and lecturers of the Faculty of Engineering and Technology and make the cooperation between TVU and VIU become closer.
