School eye-care program – About 4,000 Tra Vinh students receive free eye exams

TVU – From April 21 to April 25, 2025, about 4,000 primary and secondary school students in Tra Vinh province received free eye exams within the “School Eye Exam 2025” program sponsored by Rohto Mentholatum Vietnam Company. The program was organized by Tra Vinh University in coordination with the Department of Education and Training of the province and the Ho Chi Minh City Eye Hospital.

       

The program’s launching ceremony took place on the morning of April 21 at Nguyen Thi Minh Khai Secondary School (Tra Vinh City) with the participation of 625 students. The students were screened for refractive errors, measured their eyesight, prescribed glasses, given medicine, and instructed in eye relaxation exercises.

Speaking at the program, Ms. Cao Le Lan Dung, Product Manager of Rohto Mentholatum Vietnam Company, shared: “Protecting the eyesight of the young generation is an important part of V.Rohto’s social responsibility activities. We want to bring knowledge and proper eye care habits so that students can always keep their eyes healthy and bright on their journey of learning and development.” Dr. Nguyen Duc Phuong Thanh, Head of the Ho Chi Minh City Eye Hospital, said: “Every day, students spend a lot of time studying, reading books, and using electronic devices. Proper eye care is essential. We encourage students to have regular eye exams, combine a nutritious diet, and do eye exercises to maintain good eyesight.”

During the program, the doctor directly guided students through 2 simple exercises to help reduce eye strain: close their eyes and relax 10 times, and rub their hands to create heat on their eyes for 30 seconds.

Ms. Phung Thi Phuong Khanh – Director of the Community Service Center of Tra Vinh University – expressed: “The program not only brings practical value to students but also demonstrates a meaningful cooperative relationship between schools, businesses, and medical facilities in caring for community health.”

The program continues to other schools in Tra Vinh City, Cau Ngang District and Duyen Hai District, including: Nguyen Trai Primary School, Luong Dinh Cua Primary School, Hiep Hoa A & B Primary School, Hiep Hoa Secondary School, Ngu Lac A Primary School, bringing the total number of students receiving eye exams this time to about 4,000.

In particular, within the program’s framework, Rohto Mentholatum Vietnam Company committed to sponsoring 100 cataract surgeries for Tra Vinh University Hospital in 2025. This humanitarian activity helps improve the vision of many patients in difficult circumstances, improving local people’s quality of life.
