From March 30th, 2012 to May 13th, 2012, Fulbright Program of US Embassy in Vietnam coordinated with An Giang University to hold the English Contest under the theme “Youth: Ambitions and Challenges”. Students of TVU participated and won the second prize in the Contest.

32 teams from 13 colleges and universities in the region of Mekong Delta competed in the English Contest. After the first round, STEP-UP team of TVU and other five teams from five other outstanding tertiary education institutions as Can Tho University, An Giang University, Tien Giang University, Bac Lieu University, and Kien Giang Community College were selected to challenge one another in the final round.

At the final round, TVU’s students had started their first section – the skit –harder than expected. However, with enthusiastic and sympathetic support from almost one thousand audience, STEP-UP gained their manners and skills back and had their great performance for the rest of the contest. After 4 hours competing, STEP-UP of TVU surprisingly and persuasively completed the contest as the first runners-up with the award of VND 10 million after FOR KIDS WE ACT from Can Tho University.

Succeeding in the English contest means much more than the prize they conquered. For the team themselves, the victory is not only an individual achievement or personal satisfaction but also the affirmation that TVU’s students are ambitious challenge conquerors and are second-handed to none. For TVU itself, the success of STEP-UP at the English contest proves the efficiency and the quality of English teaching and learning practices so far.
