The 50th Anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between Vietnam and Canada is an occasion to reflect on the achievements, the journey of development, and the support from the Canadian government and people, as well as various central and local ministries, departments, and partners in many fields, especially education and training. The current position of Tra Vinh University and the accomplishments achieved through the Vietnam-Canada Community College Development Project in developing a flexible and suitable vocational education model in Tra Vinh are valuable milestones and evidence of the excellent cooperation between the two countries.

Developing vocational education in Tra Vinh province is undergoing a transformation
Mr. Tran Hoan Kim, former Chairman of the People’s Committee of Tra Vinh province, who directly supervised the project, stated that despite limited resources and many difficulties, the provincial leadership chose to break through and prioritize the development of sustainable human resources for education and training in the province.

When approaching the Vietnam-Canada Community College Development Project, the local authorities utilized precious support from the Canadian government, partners, central and local ministries and departments, enhancing the quality of education and training, and creating opportunities for the younger generation. The project brought about significant changes for the local area, starting with financial support for building vocational education infrastructure, training experts for management, developing teaching staff, providing opportunities for students and lecturers to access scholarships to study in Canada, purchasing equipment, sharing educational management experience, organizing the training process, developing programs, and managing the university.
The success of the project is a significant turning point, marking the strong development of the education and training system in the Mekong Delta, exemplified by the establishment of Tra Vinh University, a symbol of cooperation between Vietnam and Canada.
Dr. Nguyen Tien Dung, former Vice-Rector of Tra Vinh Community College, one of the key figures in the project’s implementation and the development of the university, and Deputy Chairman of the University Council of Tra Vinh University, said that the Vietnam-Canada Community College Development Project (2001-2006) made a significant and especially important contribution to the high-quality human resources training and the development of Tra Vinh Community College into Tra Vinh University today.
The management of Tra Vinh Community College participated in high-quality international training programs, renewed their thinking, and contributed to improving their professional expertise and adaptability in the international working environment, laying a solid foundation for the development of high-quality education and training models, serving the community with programs designed to meet the practical needs of the labor market, providing students with the necessary knowledge and skills to excel in the job market.
Enhancing the quality of lifelong learning
Assoc. Prof. Dr. Nguyen Minh Hoa, President of Tra Vinh University, stated that the university has gradually affirmed its position, success, and appropriate development of the North American vocational education model in Tra Vinh.
Inheriting these achievements, Tra Vinh University continues to maintain close relationships with Canadian partners, expand international cooperation with various partners and business communities in various fields. It continues to pursue an educational model that serves the community with the motto “Bringing quality learning opportunities to the community.” Tra Vinh University is entering a phase of autonomy aimed at core values for sustainable development: “Dedication, Transparency, Creativity, Friendliness.” It aims to develop and improve the ecosystem of education and training, scientific research, application, community services, social responsibility, and a lifelong learning society.

These have contributed significantly to the development of education and training in Tra Vinh province, especially at Tra Vinh University. The efforts and positive cooperation have helped us access resources, enhance the quality of human resource training, and contribute to the economic and social development of Tra Vinh province, the Mekong Delta region, and the whole country.
This support has left a deep mark on us and the future of local and national education and training. The partnership and sharing from our partners have opened new doors, created opportunities, and provided encouragement for sustainable development.
We are committed to continuing our efforts to learn, build a better learning environment, provide valuable and practical values that meet real needs. Our success is also an expression of deep gratitude and appreciation to the Canadian government, international partners, leaders of central and local ministries, business communities at home and abroad, parents, generations of students, pupils, the collective of university staff, teachers, experts, scientists, and all workers in the university who have always supported and accompanied us throughout the journey of Tra Vinh University’s development and the education and training cause of the homeland, the region, and the country.

The university is committed to providing a diverse range of education programs, from undergraduate to postgraduate levels, meeting lifelong learning needs, especially focusing on ethnic minorities, women, and communities with special needs. It fosters close connections with businesses and recruiting units to expand job opportunities and offer high-quality education to meet the practical needs of society. To date, the university has 15 internationally accredited education programs and ranks among the top universities in the Mekong Delta region. It has achieved accreditation from FIBAA, AUN-QA, and ABET, and continues to expand international education quality accreditation for other majors. Tra Vinh University meets the new quality accreditation standards for educational institutions set by the Ministry of Education and Training, with 25 standards consisting of 111 criteria, across four areas: ensuring quality in strategy, ensuring quality in systems, ensuring quality in function execution (education, scientific research, community service), and results of activities. For several years, Tra Vinh University has been listed in the Top 200 Green Universities, Sustainable Development, and Significant Contributions to Society in the UI Greenmetric World University Rankings. In 2023, Tra Vinh University continues to rise in the ranking, reaching 43rd place in the Top 100 universities with positive societal impact and contributions, marking a significant increase from 2022 (up by 19 places), 2021 (up by 28 places), and 2020 (up by 43 places) in the WURI Ranking 2023. |
