The School of Medicine and Pharmacy organizes a scientific workshop on innovation and the improvement of training quality in the Health Sciences sector

TVU – On October 22, the School of Medicine and Pharmacy organized a workshop: “Innovation, connection and improvement of the quality of training in the Health Sciences sector”, which is an academic forum, sharing experiences, promoting cooperation between training institutions, institutes, hospitals, and experts in the field of health sciences.

On the side of Tra Vinh University, there were Dr. Phan Quoc Nghia, Vice Rector, chairing the workshop; Mr. Pham Trung Yen, Head of Training Department; Ms. Tran Thi Bich Hanh, Deputy Head of Postgraduate Training Department; Mr. Nguyen Thai Son, Director of the Institute for Resource Development; and Mr. Luong Hoang Phong, Deputy Director of the Institute for Resource Development.

On the side of Tra Vinh University Hospital, there was a Specialist Level II Doctor. Huynh Thi Hong Nhung, Director of the Hospital.

On the side of the School of Medicine and Pharmacy, Tra Vinh University, there was Associate Professor Dr. Ta Van Tram, School Principal and Director of Tien Giang General Hospital, a Specialist Level II Doctor. Nguyen Doan Hoai; Master.Doctor. Doan Duong Chi Thien, Dr. Huynh Thi Hong Thu, and Dr. Tao Gia Phu, Vice Principals of the school.

In his opening speech at the workshop, Dr. Phan Quoc Nghia emphasized the hope that the workshop would be an opportunity for training units, medical facilities, and experts to review current training practices, thereby updating and adjusting some training program content, especially in clinical training activities at hospitals. According to the Vice Rector, enhancing practicality, standardizing professional skills, and improving students’ adaptability are key factors for meeting national professional standards and ensuring the quality of medical human resources in the context of integration and digital transformation in higher education.

Prof. Dr. Ta Van Tram, Principal of the School of Medicine and Pharmacy, Head of the Organizing Committee of the workshop, agreed with the above assessment and affirmed the significance and urgency of organizing the workshop in the context of higher education in the health sector facing many challenges, including the need to innovate training programs towards a competency-based approach; ensuring output standards consistent with national and international qualification frameworks; improving the effectiveness of the connection between theory and practice, as well as promoting cooperation between schools and medical facilities in training and research.

The workshop produced many valuable professional reports, reflecting on training practices and proposing innovative directions for the health sciences sector.

“The Institute – School Connection Model in Health Sciences Training: Current Situation, Innovation and Quality Improvement” presented by MSc. Dr. Doan Duong Chi Thien, Vice Principal of the School of Medicine and Pharmacy. The report analyzed the current situation of the connection between training units and practice facilities in postgraduate training at the School of Medicine and Pharmacy, with the current scale including 78 students in Health Management and Public Health, 290 students in Level I specialties, and 43 students in Level II specialties. The report emphasizes the key role of the Institute – School – Hospital linkage model in improving the quality of practical training, developing learners’ professional skills, and setting output standards for learners.

“The situation of organizing training for undergraduate classes in the health sciences” was presented by Ms. Pham Thi Tuyet Nhung, representative of the Training Department of the School of Medicine and Pharmacy. The report provides an overview of the admission process, the teaching organization, testing and assessment, and the difficulties in ensuring training quality, especially in training clinical skills for students. 

“The situation of organizing training for postgraduate classes in the health sciences” was presented by Mr. Le Quang Thai, representative of the Postgraduate Training Department. The report discusses the training process for specialists, thesis guidance and defense, the organization of graduation internships, and challenges in coordinating activities across related departments.

“Undergraduate and postgraduate training in health sciences managed by the Institute for Human Resource Development,” presented by Ms. Thach Thi Phuong, representative of the Institute for Human Resource Development. The report provides actual data on the scale of training, the assessment of learners’ capacity and difficulties in quality management, and coordination in organizing interdisciplinary training.

“The role of Tra Vinh University Hospital in practical training and Institute-School linkage,” presented by Dr. Huynh Thi Hong Nhung, Director of the Hospital. The report clarifies the hospital’s role in providing a clinical practice environment for students and postgraduates. It emphasizes the need to strengthen coordination between schools and hospitals for continuous training and professional development.

At the end of the reporting session, the general discussion, under the direction of the Organizing Committee and with all delegates participating, yielded many practical opinions and proposals to improve the effectiveness of coordination among training units, institutes, and hospitals. The discussion contents focused on enhancing the training management process, improving the quality of clinical practice guidance, and promoting the application of the training program in professional practice.
