TVU – On March 31, 2025, Tra Vinh University (TVU) welcomed a delegation from Bournemouth University (BU), UK, along with the SOARing Digital Transformation Project representatives. The visit aims to promote international cooperation and enhance the application of digital transformation in training and management at TVU.
The delegation included Prof. Lois Farquharson – Head of Executive Faculty, Business School, Bournemouth University; Assoc. Prof. Dr. Gelareh Roushan – Head of Centre for Fusion Learning Innovation and Excellence; Dr. Milena Bobeva – Senior Principal Academic, External Engagement-International Lead of Business School and Assoc. Prof. Dr. Mike Perkin – Head of the Centre for Research & Innovation at British University Vietnam. The delegation was welcomed by Dr. Phan Quoc Nghia, Vice-Rector of Tra Vinh University, and representatives of the units at the University.
Speaking at the meeting, Dr. Phan Quoc Nghia emphasized the importance of improving the capacity of digital transformation at the University.
The Vice Rector highly appreciated the digital transformation maturity assessment toolkit supported by Bournemouth University. This tool helps the University have an overview and accurately measure the current level of digital transformation, thereby clearly identifying areas that need improvement and building a suitable development roadmap. This is an important step forward, helping TVU deploy technology solutions more effectively and systematically.
The school’s leaders hope to continue receiving advice and support from Bournemouth University in implementing the digital transformation strategy, especially solutions for applying technology to management and teaching. The companionship of international partners will contribute to helping TVU develop sustainably, improve the quality of education, and better meet the needs of learners in the digital age.
At the meeting, the two sides discussed potential cooperation projects, signed a memorandum of understanding, organized a series of training courses to improve online teaching skills, integrated AI ethics in education, and visited some cultural sites in Tra Vinh.
On behalf of the BU delegation, Prof. Lois Farquharson expressed her impression of TVU’s development and highly appreciated the preparation work and close coordination from the units in the school.
On this occasion, Dr. Milena Bobeva also introduced a new survey model in the SOARing Project to evaluate educational data. This model is expected to support research and educational management at TVU effectively.
In addition, the delegation also shared and answered questions about the approach to the digital transformation capacity assessment tool suitable for each unit. According to Dr. Milena Bobeva, the assessment is not intended to compare TVU with other units but, more importantly, to consider progress through each stage, ensuring that each new assessment reflects better digital transformation results than the previous one. This approach helps the school have a more practical view of the level of maturity in digital transformation, thereby adjusting the strategy flexibly and effectively.
Within the program’s framework, from March 31 to April 2, the delegation organized training sessions for TVU staff and lecturers on implementing digital transformation in teaching and management. Experts from BU shared practical approaches, applying technology to online teaching and integrating tools to support digital competency assessment. The training content aims to help lecturers improve their digital transformation skills, contributing to developing a comprehensive and sustainable digital education ecosystem.
