On the occasion of Canada Day July 1, Tra Vinh University respectfully acknowledges and sends deep gratitude to the Government and people of Canada โ loyal friends who have accompanied and continue to accompany Vietnam and Tra Vinh’s educational development journey for over two decades.
Canada โ A great friend of Tra Vinh and Mekong Delta residents
Since establishing diplomatic relations on August 21, 1973, Vietnam and Canada have continuously developed their friendship and comprehensive partnership across multiple fields: economy, culture, education, and sustainable development. Education stands out as a particularly bright spot, exemplified by the Vietnam-Canada Community College Project (VCCCP) โ the core foundation for the formation and development of today’s Tra Vinh University.
During 2001-2006, when Tra Vinh province remained economically challenging with limited educational infrastructure, the VCCCP project appeared as a “strategic breakthrough.” The Canadian Government provided financial support and sent leading experts and volunteers to directly conduct training, transfer experience, and help build modern vocational training systems connected to practical needs.
Mr. Tran Hoan Kim โ former Chairman of Tra Vinh Provincial People’s Committee, who directly supervised the provincial project, affirmed: “When approaching this project, we identified education and human resource training as key to development. Canada’s strong companionship helped Tra Vinh transform and gradually build a systematic and quality educational and vocational training foundation.”
From the success of the community college model, Tra Vinh Community College established itself and later developed into Tra Vinh University โ one of the pioneering institutions in Vietnam operating under the North American community education model.
“The project involved more than building physical infrastructure; it represented a process of transferring knowledge, thinking, and an entire modern, humanistic educational culture. The Canadian Government supported us in training internationally qualified management staff and faculty. Most importantly, it inspired us and helped us change educational thinking, placing students and community at the center. Every funding allocation, every training course, every exchange trip contributed to laying the foundation for an equitable, quality, and humanistic educational environment,” shares Professor Dr. Pham Tiet Khanh, Chairman of the University Council and Chairman of the Vietnam Community College Association.
Throughout the development journey, many generations of TVU staff and faculty have traveled to Canada for study, many Canadian experts have come to Tra Vinh to work, and countless cooperation projects have been implemented in areas including entrepreneurship, innovation, and education for sustainable development.
Beyond the community college project, the Canadian Government continues supporting Tra Vinh in general and Tra Vinh University in particular through various programs such as: vocational cooperation development projects, women’s empowerment promotion, sustainable agriculture development, and public management capacity improvement. Each program leaves positive imprints and makes practical contributions to changing the local socio-economic landscape.
Deep gratitude โ continuing steady steps on the integration path
Professor Dr. Pham Tiet Khanh, Chairman of the University Council, Associate Professor Dr. Nguyen Minh Hoa, Rector, along with other leaders welcome the Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of Canada to Vietnam.
Today’s student generation at Tra Vinh University benefits from the community education model โ an internationally recognized model that continues spreading its values. Every classroom, every lecture hall, every startup project at TVU bears deep imprints of Vietnam-Canada friendship.
Associate Professor Dr. Nguyen Minh Hoa โ Rector of the university, emphasizes: “We always consider today’s success as crystallized from the valuable support of the Canadian Government and people. Tra Vinh University will continue promoting the community education model โ a place of learning, responsibility, and contribution to the community.”
A journey of nearly 25 years of development, not easy but full of pride, Tra Vinh University (TVU) continues rising from difficulties and challenges, developing high-quality human resources for the Mekong Delta and the entire country. With mission and aspiration, every official, faculty member, and student here continues writing the story of enthusiasm, dedication, and innovation spirit.
Currently, Tra Vinh University trains 10 doctoral programs, 20 master’s programs, 9 specialist level I programs, 1 specialist level II program in medicine and pharmacy, and 50 undergraduate programs with approximately 20,000 students, including international students. TVU also remains the only university nationwide providing specialized training in Khmer Southern Language-Culture-Arts, contributing to preserving and promoting ethnic cultural identity. Particularly, TVU stands among the public universities implementing comprehensive autonomy, aiming to develop an advanced university model “From green university ecosystem to smart university.” The university continuously invests in modern infrastructure, develops high-quality human resources, promotes innovation, and advances digital transformation in training, scientific research, and technology transfer serving the community.
Additionally, the university has 27 training programs accredited according to international standards FIBAA, AUN-QA, ABET, with the Dentistry program meeting Ministry of Education and Training accreditation standards, contributing to placing Tra Vinh University among the top universities in the Mekong Delta region with many internationally quality-accredited educational programs.
For consecutive years, Tra Vinh University has ranked in the Top 200 universities with green educational environments and sustainable development investment, according to UI GreenMetric Ranking. For three consecutive years 2022, 2023, and 2024, it won outstanding digital transformation awards. For the fifth consecutive year, Tra Vinh University continues climbing in the top 100 universities with real impact. Particularly, the university ranks in the TOP leading group for cultural value index โ B5 (WURI Culture/Value), World Universities with Real Impact (WURI), announced by the World Universities Alliance.
On Canada Day (July 1), TVU respectfully sends congratulations to the Canadian Government and people. Simultaneously, we send deep gratitude to Canadian diplomats, experts, faculty, and volunteers who have connected with and contributed to the success of the Vietnam-Canada Community College Project and Tra Vinh University. Every step of our progress today bears the imprint of your kindness. This friendship will always remain strong and continue spreading, contributing to nurturing a future of humanistic, peaceful, and developing education.
