Tra Vinh University creates positive impact through hands-on campus experience program

(TVU) – Instead of “wandering” through social media for images, many high schools are now giving students the opportunity for first-hand experience at universities. This career guidance model creates positive effects, helping students gain a more vibrant perspective of their potential future university environment.

On January 19, Tra Vinh University welcomes nearly 1,000 high school students from Vinh Long, An Giang, Soc Trang, Ben Tre, and Dong Thap provinces for a “Day in the Life of a University Student” experience program.

Participating schools include Suong Nguyet Anh High School (Ben Tre), Vong The High School (An Giang), Hieu Phung High School (Vinh Long), Lich Hoi Thuong High School (Soc Trang), Giong Thi Dam High School (Dong Thap), Binh Dai Continuing Education Center (Ben Tre), Ba Tri Continuing Education Center (Ben Tre), and Vinh Long Ethnic Boarding School.

Tra Vinh University flexibly implements the campus tour and career guidance through various enriching activities. Students explore modern facilities, including classrooms, laboratories, lecture halls, libraries, and dormitories. They experience the “Mock Court” practice room at the College of Economics and Law (CEL), agricultural practice areas, the dental examination and treatment area with its modern equipment, and workshops for automation control, mechanics, automotive, electrical, electronics, and construction at the Faculty of Engineering and Technology. Activities also extend to the College of Khmer Southern Language-Culture-Arts and Humanities (CLASKA), College of Medicine and Pharmacy (CMP), Institute of Environmental Science and Technology, King Sejong Institute Tra Vinh, and areas showcasing traditional musical instruments.

Through these career guidance experiences at the high school level, students can evaluate their strengths and interests related to potential careers, helping them choose suitable university programs and develop qualities needed for their future professions.

The “Day in the Life of a University Student” is an annual experiential program at Tra Vinh University, helping high school students chart their educational and career paths. The university looks forward to welcoming more student groups and teachers to explore the university environment. Students receive comprehensive information about the university, training programs, scholarship policies, and learning environment. Many express their desire to become Tra Vinh University students in the future.

In 2025, Tra Vinh University will offer programs across various fields, including Agriculture – Aquaculture; Engineering Technology; Health Sciences; Economics – Law, Logistics and Management; Education; Applied Chemistry; Foreign Languages, Tourism, Hotel and Restaurant Services; Biotechnology, Environment; Khmer Southern Language, Culture and Arts; Sports Management, and Political Theory. Notably, the university is introducing a new major in plant protection and four new specializations: social work in healthcare, control engineering, and automation technology with semiconductor circuit design. Information technology is taught in English, and business administration is taught in English.

The university has 19 programs accredited by international standards, such as FIBAA, AUN-QA, and ABET, with the Dentistry program meeting the Ministry of Education and Training’s standards. Three additional programs – Electrical and Electronic Engineering Technology, Construction Engineering Technology, and Mechanical Engineering Technology – are recently undergoing ABET accreditation, helping position Tra Vinh University among the Mekong Delta universities with the most internationally accredited programs.

11 programs are internationally accredited by AUN-QA: Agriculture, Aquaculture, Veterinary Medicine, Nursing, Medical Laboratory Technology, Pharmacy, Khmer Language, Food Technology, Master of Cultural Studies, Early Childhood Education, and English Language.

Additionally, seven programs hold FIBAA international accreditation: Business Administration, Economics, Law, Accounting and Banking Finance, Master of Business Administration, and Master of Economic Management. The Information Technology program has achieved ABET accreditation.

The university implements student-friendly policies, including a 100% tuition fee exemption for education majors (under Government Decree 116) and Traditional Musical Instrument Performance; a 30% tuition reduction for Cultural Studies and Music Studies majors; and a monthly allowance of 450,000 VND for Traditional Musical Instrument Performance students. The university also offers numerous merit-based scholarships and sponsor-funded scholarships for disadvantaged students and supports scientific research and startup initiatives.

MULTIPLE SCHOLARSHIPS covering 50% of tuition fees are available for female students in technology engineering fields: Transportation Construction Engineering, Construction Engineering Technology, Mechanical Engineering Technology, Electrical-Electronic Engineering Technology, Control and Automation Engineering Technology, Power Mechanics, and Automotive Engineering Technology. Female students in Applied Chemistry programs receive scholarships covering 30% of tuition fees.

Recently, Tra Vinh University has made its mark in the UI GreenMetric World University Rankings 2024, ranking 133rd out of 1,477 institutions, improving from its 2023 position and maintaining its place among the world’s top 200 green, sustainable universities. This marks the fifth consecutive year the university has maintained this prestigious achievement, affirming its unwavering commitment to sustainable development.
