Tra Vinh University enhances practical application in Economics training program – Tourism Economics specialization

TVU – On the afternoon of June 19, the School of Economics and Law at Tra Vinh University organized a meeting with the Advisory Board for the Economics training program – Tourism Economics specialization. Many opinions recognize the program’s high practicality and alignment with tourism and service sector recruitment needs.

The Tourism Economics training program spans 122 credits over 3.5 years, integrating foundational economics knowledge with specialized tourism courses such as tour management, sustainable tourism development, digital marketing, and technology applications in tourism. Students receive training in analytical skills, critical thinking, teamwork abilities, and entrepreneurial capacity.

Advisory Board members, representing businesses and experts from major universities, highly evaluate the approach connecting training with practice. The program arranges internship semesters starting from the second year, helping students gain early exposure to real work environments at tourism businesses, travel agencies, and hotels.

Mr. Ho Duc Phu, Director of Hanoitourist Ho Chi Minh City branch, states: “Internship semesters need early implementation so students can develop interpersonal skills, service skills, and situation-handling abilities. Businesses need people who can work effectively, not just those who know theory.”

During the meeting, many experts suggested adding courses such as community tourism, agricultural tourism, experiential economics, and local culture to leverage the distinctive strengths of the Mekong Delta region. Some opinions also emphasize the role of soft skills, multicultural communication, and specialized foreign languages in the integration environment.

Speaking at the meeting, Associate Professor Dr. Nguyen Van Nguyen, Dean of the School of Economics and Law at Tra Vinh University, emphasizes: “Organizing the Advisory Board meeting represents an important step to ensure the training program truly connects with the labor market. We identify Tourism Economics as a strategic specialization, contributing to developing high-quality human resources for the tourism industry during the current strong recovery and digital transformation period.”

Associate Professor Dr. Nguyen Van Nguyen also shares that the school will continue benchmarking the program with domestic and international universities, while strengthening business cooperation, enhancing practical internships, and building a learning ecosystem that supports student entrepreneurship in tourism economics.

The meeting concludes in an open spirit with high consensus on training objectives and directions. The Faculty of Economics will synthesize feedback, make improvements, and submit it to the University Council for approval to implement it starting from the 2025 admission intake.
