The final round of the 9th Student Public Speaking Competition with the theme “New Era” took place at Tra Vinh University on April 18, 2025, featuring 16 outstanding contestants and numerous supporters. The event welcomed Dr. Truong Tri Vu, Advisory Board Member and main sponsor of the competition; Dr. Nguyen Tien Dung, Vice Chairman of the Advisory Board; Dr. Phan Quoc Nghia, Vice Rector of Tra Vinh University and Head of the Organizing Committee; along with representatives from various university departments.ย
In his opening remarks, Dr. Phan Quoc Nghia emphasized that the competition serves as a meaningful platform to stimulate critical thinking, encourage confident expression of ideas, and enhance student integration skills amid the ongoing digital transformation.
Dr. Truong Tri Vu highlighted the crucial importance of public speaking abilities and encouraged contestants to apply their knowledge effectively.
The competition consisted of two sections: individual and group public speaking. During the individual segment, each contestant presented their viewpoint on a judge-selected question within seven minutes after a ten-minute preparation period. The six highest-scoring participants advanced to the group round, where they formed two opposing teams to debate a common topic, demonstrating their collaborative, argumentative, and persuasive capabilities. The event’s atmosphere intensified with an interactive quiz session for contestants and audience members while awaiting the final results announcement.
Ly Gia Han from the College of Khmer Southern Language-Culture-Arts and Humanities (CLASKA) claimed the first prize, while Nguyen Ngoc Nhu Huynh from the College of Economics and Law (CEL) secured second place. Truong Tuan Quoc from CLASKA won third prize, with encouragement prizes awarded to Tran Bao Huy from the College of Medicine and Pharmacy (CMP) and Lam Tinh Tu from the Faculty of Engineering and Technology. Dr. Tieu Thanh Thuy, Director of the Center of Excellence in Learning Resources and Innovation, concluded the event by commending the contestants’ abilities, dedication, and eagerness to learn. She encouraged all students to continue developing soft skills, describing them as valuable assets for academic advancement and future entrepreneurial endeavors.
