Tra Vinh University launches comprehensive support project for female students

(TVU) – On February 18, 2025, Tra Vinh University welcomes Mr. Thomas Lawrence Monroe, Director of the “Capacity Building Project for Disadvantaged Female Students” from Saigon Children’s Charity CIO. The visit marks a significant initiative to support and empower female students facing challenging socio-economic circumstances.

Dr. Thach Thi Dan, Vice-Rector of Tra Vinh University, and student affairs leadership receive the delegation. The project, commissioned by the Tra Vinh Provincial People’s Committee, spans 2024-2028 and focuses on comprehensive support for female students.

The project’s primary objectives are multifaceted, designed to develop a professionally skilled female workforce while creating opportunities for stable income generation. Beyond economic empowerment, the initiative seeks to promote social and personal development, simultaneously challenging existing gender-based social barriers.

Impressive achievements are already emerging during the first semester of 2024-2025. The project financially supports 70 disadvantaged female students, allocating 560 million VND in educational assistance. Additionally, four comprehensive soft skills training workshops are being conducted, addressing critical areas such as communication, emotional management, and personal development skills.

Dr. Thach Thi Dan emphasizes the project’s transformative potential, highlighting the substantial non-refundable grant of 3.28 billion VND (approximately 138,800 USD). The initiative strategically targets motivated female students with strong academic aspirations and the potential to break cycles of economic hardship, focusing on their unique strengths and potential.

During the visit, Saigon Children’s Charity representatives engage deeply with scholarship recipients through personal interaction sessions, campus tours, workplace visits, and special support meetings with disabled students. This comprehensive approach ensures holistic support that extends far beyond traditional financial assistance.

The project represents a profound commitment to educational support, focusing on monetary aid and comprehensive personal and professional development. Investing in female students’ potential, the initiative aims to create lasting positive impacts for individuals, their families, and the broader Tra Vinh community.

This collaborative effort between Tra Vinh University and Saigon Children’s Charity powerfully demonstrates a forward-thinking approach to inclusive education, gender empowerment, and sustainable social development. It is an inspiring model of how targeted support can transform educational opportunities and individual life trajectories.
