Tra Vinh University’s College of Khmer Southern Language-Culture-Arts and Humanities (CLASKA) hosted its fourth Khmer Language Speaking Contest on April 26, centered on the theme “Youth and Social Media.” The event brought together nearly 120 contestants from 16 teams representing ethnic boarding schools across multiple provinces and Tra Vinh University departments.
Dr. Thach Thi Dan, Rector of Tra Vinh University, highlighted the contest’s role in developing presentation skills, critical thinking, and promoting responsible social media use while preserving Khmer cultural identity.
The competition featured two challenging rounds: a creative greeting section showcasing ethnic identity through performances about social media, and a debate section testing contestants’ Khmer language fluency and critical thinking abilities. Education specialist Master Thach Doi commended participants for their thorough preparation, confident delivery, and deep awareness of digital age challenges, noting how the contest demonstrated both language mastery and social consciousness. The An Giang Provincial Ethnic Boarding High School team claimed the top prize, with Tra Vinh Pali Khmer College and Tra Cu District Ethnic Boarding School winning second and third places respectively.
Dr. Ngo So Phe, CLASKA’s Rector, celebrated the event’s success in developing crucial skills while fostering creativity and social responsibility among Khmer youth. Thirteen encouragement prizes and individual awards for outstanding performance were also presented, recognizing exceptional talent across categories including speaking, problem-solving, and theatrical presentation.
