TVU – The 729th episode of the charity program “Journey of Compassion”, produced by Vinh Long Radio and Television Station, introduces viewers to an inspiring story of resilience and determination. Sơn Thị Quế Trân, a student at Tra Vinh University, pursues her dream of becoming an accountant despite facing serious physical challenges.
Born in 2006 and raised in a disadvantaged family in Kỳ La Hamlet, Hòa Thuận Ward, Vĩnh Long Province (formerly part of Châu Thành District, Trà Vinh Province), Quế Trân appears to have developed normally in her infancy. However, when she begins learning to walk, her family notices that both her feet are turned inward, and she is unable to walk properly. Her parents seek medical help in many places, but the results fall short of their expectations.
From the age of 1 to 5, Quế Trân attends school and receives physical therapy at a special needs institution. At age 4, a surgery program becomes available for people with disabilities, and her family registers her with high hopes. Unfortunately, the surgery does not bring the results they wish for, and Trân still cannot walk on her own. Despite enduring severe difficulties with mobility and self-care, she remains determined to “walk” on her own two feet—both literally and figuratively—and never gives up her dream of attending school.
Quế Trân shares, “Going to school brings me great happiness. I sometimes feel shy and self-conscious, watching my friends freely move around and play while I sit and observe. But with the support of my family, teachers, and relatives, I gradually become more open and sociable. That helps me make friends and engage in conversations with them.”
By the end of 9th grade, she considers dropping out, concerned about her aging parents and not wanting to become a burden. However, through constant encouragement from her loved ones, she chooses to continue. With unwavering determination, Quế Trân maintains excellent academic performance for two consecutive years, earning recognition as a top student in both 11th and 12th grades. After graduating from high school, she boldly enrolls in the Accounting program at Tra Vinh University, where she is currently a second-year student. In this new academic environment, she continues striving with even greater determination.
Quế Trân believes that life often presents challenges we do not choose, but they must be faced head-on. These difficulties, she says, cannot stop us if we have enough strength and determination to overcome them.
To support her journey, the “Journey of Compassion” program provides financial assistance to Quế Trân’s family. This contribution aims to uplift and encourage, giving the family more strength and faith to move forward and improve their lives.
