Tra Vinh University students explore Con Dao’s heritage and marine conservation

Tra Vinh University’s Youth Union and Student Association took over 40 students on a meaningful journey to Con Dao Island in Ba Ria-Vung Tau province from May 24 to 25. The patriotic education trip, called “TVU Students with the Nation’s Seas and Islands,” combined historical learning with environmental conservation through the “Con Dao โ€“ Safe Home for Sea Turtles” program for 2025.

The student delegation included former and current Youth Union and Student Association officers, executive committee members, and representatives from various campus clubs and organizations. During their visit, students explored significant historical landmarks, including Con Dao Prison and Con Dao Museum, gaining insights into Vietnam’s struggle for independence. They also paid their respects to fallen heroes at Hang Duong Cemetery, honoring those who sacrificed their lives for national freedom.

Working alongside Con Dao National Park, the students actively participated in marine conservation efforts. They observed turtle hatching pools, learned about sea turtle life cycles and protection measures, and experienced the rewarding moment of releasing baby turtles into the ocean. These hands-on activities connected students with Vietnam’s marine biodiversity and conservation efforts.

Ms. Pham Le Phuong Thao, who serves as a member of the Tra Vinh Provincial Youth Union Standing Committee, University Youth Union Secretary, and Student Association President, emphasized the trip’s educational value. She noted how the experience helps students understand Vietnam’s heroic past while inspiring them to contribute to the country’s development and protection in the present day.

The program successfully merged patriotic education with environmental awareness, giving Tra Vinh University students a deeper appreciation for both Vietnam’s historical heritage and its natural treasures that need protection for future generations.
