Tra Vinh University students received 20 scholarships from the organization of Women’s Empowerment and Voice (WEAV)

(TVU) – Since 2015, WEAV, a non-profit organization from the US, has awarded scholarships to female students of TVU for six consecutive years. This is a meaningful humanitarian program. The scholarship is not only a valuable gift but also a motivation to help female students to overcome difficulties in their life as well as in their studying. 

In 2020, WEAV coordinated with Tra Vinh University to award 20 scholarships to female students with a total amount of VND 50 million.

At the ceremony, Ms. Nguyen Thi Mai Khanh, Director of International Collaboration and Project Promotion Department of Tra Vinh university expressed her gratitude to WEAV and her best wishes to Prof. Dr. Lois Testa Vietri – Founder and CEO of WEAV in the US, who was unable to attend the Scholarship Awards Ceremony due to the Covid-19 pandemic”.

WEAV representative, Mr. Kenneth Liffiton, said that: “The scholarship program aims to empower Vietnamese women, especially female students who can find their own voice, which will enrich family life and community’s development. WEAV will continue to develop this program and always keep a close relationship with Tra Vinh university”.

On behalf of female students of Tra Vinh University, Cuong Thi Thu Thao, a student majoring in the English Language in course of 2017, expressed her sincere thanks to the attention and support of Tra Vinh University and WEAV for sponsoring valuable scholarships, helping many female students to partially cover their tuition fees as well as their living cost. This is also the motivation to encourage them to work harder in learning.

WEAV is a non-profit educational organization aiming to promote gender equality in education for girls and women in economically disadvantaged communities with the motto “Raising rights and voices for women and female children”. In particular, scholarship sponsoring for female students in difficult circumstances is one of the core activities of the program with the slogan “Let girls learn!”
