TVU – The second Khmer Amateur Dance Festival 2024 concludes on November 13 evening at Ao Ba Om Cultural-Tourism Area, bringing together nine performance groups from across Tra Vinh province, including eight districts, Tra Vinh City, and Tra Vinh University. The event showcases 37 performances by more than 300 artisans and performers in the Cultural and Tourism Week celebrating the province’s Ok Om Bok Festival 2024.
Following competition guidelines, each participating unit presents a comprehensive dance program running between 20 and 40 minutes. The performances feature distinctive Khmer dance rhythms celebrating themes ranging from patriotic tributes to the Party and President Ho Chi Minh to expressions of love for the homeland and portrayals of Vietnam’s national unity and development achievements.
TVU emerges as the standout performer at the awards ceremony, securing the festival’s top prize for its exemplary program. The university’s success extends to individual performances, with three of its entries receiving recognition:
- B prizes: “Hoa Cham Pay,” “Earth Goddess,” and “Chhu Chhai Ancestral Worship.”
- C prizes: “Learning Yeak Rom Dance Heritage” and “Love Destiny.”
- Special recognition for promising choreographers Kim Chanh Thon and Thach Huynh Thuone
The festival serves multiple cultural objectives, including preserving and advancing amateur dance artistry, fostering public artistic expression, and creating vibrant community engagement opportunities. It is a significant platform for enhancing cultural life and meeting the public’s artistic aspirations.
The broader Cultural and Tourism Week (November 9-15, 2024) features various events, including a Southern Vietnamese culinary showcase, a tourism development exhibition, a trade fair highlighting rural and OCOP products, Vietnam Cultural Heritage Day celebrations, and various sports competitions and exhibitions.
