TVU – On the evening of May 15, a large number of students and lecturers gathered at Hall D5 to fuel the Vietnam women’s national football team in the final match of the women’s football tournament at the 2023 Southeast Asian Games (SEA Games 32) that was held from 5–17 May 2023, in Phnom Penh, Cambodia.
The Vietnam team was greatly motivated to win the fourth straight gold medal at the SEA Games by the support and encouragement of the crowd before the match even began.
At 19:30, as the match’s starting whistle was blown, thousands of hearts turned towards the Morodok Techo National Stadium, giving their all to support the national women’s football team.
Comrade Pham Le Phuong Thao, Standing Member of the Provincial Youth Union, Secretary of the Youth Union, and President of the Student Association of the University, stated that in response to the desires of students and lecturers, a live stream of the tournament’s final round would be run at Hall D5. It was the biggest hall at the university and could hold more than a thousand people. Additionally, a 500-inch LED screen was used for broadcasting so that students could follow along with the details of the game.
Many spectators expected for the encounter between Vietnam and Myanmar in the final match of the 32nd SEA Games women’s football tournament. Before the game, many supporters from Tra Vinh University arrived at Hall D5 extremely early, generating a lively and exciting scene.
Medical Imaging Technology student Cao Ho Thien Loc, class of 2022, sent plenty of well wishes and encouragement to the Vietnamese team. He shared, “I’ve watched all the matches of the Vietnamese team. For all of us, today is a great day since the Vietnamese team brought our national colors and advanced directly to the 32nd SEA Games final.”
Banners, Vietnam flag T-shirts, slogans, and enthusiasm were brought into the hall, all ready to spiritually fuel the Vietnam women’s national team. To support the home team in the championship, numerous remarks and well wishes were shared.
There were wild outbursts of excitement in the 12th minute when Tuyet Dung smartly passed the ball to Huynh Nhu, and she leisurely shot it into the empty net, giving the Vietnam team the lead 1-0. In the 75th minute, Thanh Nha quickly sped on the right flank and performed a flawless kick, and the ball soared directly into Myanmar’s goal, doubling the lead for the Vietnam team.
Student Huynh Truong Son from Medical Imaging Technology class of 2021 expressed, “For the hearts of millions of fans across the country, the Vietnam team will forever be a hero. Wishing the team the best of luck to win the tournament.”
The 20-player Vietnam women’s football team is put in pot 1 and assigned to Group A at the 32nd SEA Games venue, together with teams from Myanmar, the Philippines, Malaysia, and Indonesia. The Vietnamese women’s football team finished the group stage in first place in Group A with 6 points and a +4 goal difference.
In the 13 seasons that women’s football has been held at the SEA Games, the Vietnamese women’s team has made it to the final 10 times and won gold medals 8 times in 2001, 2003, 2005, 2009, 2017, 2019, 2021, and 2023. Besides, they have established a record of four straight SEA Games titles.
