TVU team wins second prize in anti-drug awareness contest

(TVU) – The Department of Drug Crime Investigation (Ministry of Public Security), the Department of Student Affairs (Ministry of Education and Training), and the Education and Science Program Department (Vietnam Television) jointly organized on November 7 the contest “Youth Joining Hands to Prevent Drug Abuse” in 2025 at Can Tho Technical Economic College (CTEC), targeting students from universities, colleges, and vocational education institutions.

Attending the event were Col. Nguyen Duc Tuan, Deputy Director of the Department of Drug Crime Investigation (Ministry of Public Security); Col. Bui Duc An, Standing Member of the Party Committee and Deputy Director of Can Tho City Public Security; together with representatives from the Public Security units of Can Tho, lecturers, and students from various universities and colleges.

With the theme “Say No to Drugs – Building a Safe and Healthy Campus,” the contest aimed to raise students’ awareness about the dangers of drugs while creating an engaging platform for young people to actively prevent and say no to social evils. Participating teams came from Tra Vinh University, Can Tho Technical Economic College (CTEC), Can Tho University of Technology, Can Tho Vocational College, Dong Thap University, and Vinh Long University of Technology Education.

Organized in the format of a television gameshow, the contest featured creative, exciting, and knowledge-rich segments that highlighted teamwork and student enthusiasm. The program was broadcast on VTV2, VTV7, and across various digital platforms.

A special highlight of the event was the interactive segment with host Hong Phuc, actor Xuan Nghi, and singer Double 2T, who helped contestants handle simulated real-life scenarios and share practical life lessons.

The contest consisted of four rounds: Who Am I, Knowledge, Project Presentation on Drug Prevention, and Talent. The Tra Vinh University team demonstrated profound understanding, creativity, and strong teamwork throughout these rounds. Their skits, presentations, and awareness projects were carefully prepared and effectively conveyed the message about the dangers of drugs and the importance of building a clean, drug-free learning environment.

After a series of exciting and competitive rounds, the Tra Vinh University team excellently won Second Prize overall and the Best Knowledge Award.

“Through this contest, we have gained valuable knowledge and heightened our awareness, contributing to efforts to prevent and combat drug abuse in the learning environment. We also hope to spread the message of living a healthy, drug-free life to our friends, families, and the community,” shared Nguyen Do Quan Quan, a student from the Cultural Studies class of 2023.

This year, the 2025 Drug-Free Schools contest is being held in 12 provinces and cities nationwide, with the participation of 60 high schools and 30 universities and colleges.

It serves as an intellectual and meaningful playground for students, playing an important role in raising awareness among young people about the harms of drugs and the responsibility of each individual in creating a safe, healthy school environment. Through the contest, students also gain basic knowledge of the laws on Drug Prevention and Control, and Administrative Violations related to Drug Rehabilitation and Post-Rehabilitation Management.

At the same time, the contest helps students recognize the schemes and tactics of drug crimes, encouraging them to proactively spread awareness to their friends, families, and communities—joining hands to push back against drugs and say no to drug abuse.
