Emerging the atmosphere of southern Khmer eager to welcome Chol Chnam Thmay (2,555 years in Buddhist calendar), under the permission of the Party and the Rector Borad, Committee of Gender and Minority in cooperation with other departments organized a musical eve for all Khmer students of Tra Vinh University (TVU). Nguyen Tien Dung, MA. – Deputy of Party Committee Secretary and Vice Rector participated and gave his speech to send his regards to the students and their families with a peaceful and happy new year.
It was honored to welcome monks from temples and pagodas within the province such as Superior Monk Thach Xuong – Head of Chau Thanh Buddhism Education Committee, Superior Monk Thach Oai – The Chief of the Secretariat of Tra Vinh Association of Patriotic Monks. There were also important guests like Mr. Thach Sech – Deputy Director of Tra Vinh TV station and delegates, teachers and students.
The performance by Khmer students of different majors at TVU. including beautiful traditional dances, songs, …etc created a picture of Khmer cultural features and cause special interest among the audience
On the occasion, Superior Monk Thach Oai gave a speech to review the history of Chol Chnam Thmay of Khmer people, providing students more useful information about Khmer culture. The Superior Monk also expected students to try to study and should follow the guidelines of the Party, policies and the regulations of the State, especially know how to maintain and promote the tradition and culture. Moreover, the university handed out presents to student s who were excellent in learning in order to enjoy the New Year with their families.
The music show not only indicated special concerns of the Rector Board to Khmer people but also a helpful playground for students to exchange cultural and musical experience, preserve and promote national culture features, and motivate them in their studying. Hopefully, together with people and families, Khmer people would enjoy a festival season of Chol Chnam Thmay with peace and happiness.
