TVU – On December 8, 2022, Mr. Shawn Steil, Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of Canada in Vietnam, and the delegation visited and worked with Tra Vinh University. Assoc.Prof.Dr. Phạm Tiết Khánh, Chairman of Tra Vinh University Council, President of the Vietnam Association of Community Colleges (VACC), and Chairman of the Vietnam – Canada Friendship Association in Tra Vinh received the delegation.
Receiving the delegation were Mr. Trần Hoàn Kim, former Deputy Secretary of the Provincial Party Committee, former Chairman of Tra Vinh Provincial People’s Committee, Chairman of the Advisory Council of Tra Vinh University; Dr. Nguyễn Minh Hoà, Rector of Tra Vinh University; Dr. Thạch Thị Dân, Vice Rector; Assoc.Prof.Dr. Diệp Thanh Tùng, Vice Rector, and members of the Board of Directors, along with representatives of the units.
Assoc.Prof.Dr. Pham Tiet Khanh said: Over the past time, with the active role of the Canadian Embassy in Vietnam, the relationship between Tra Vinh University and partner institutes in Canada has been tightened and has obtained many achievements in the fields of culture, education, scientific research, technology transfer, etc., contributing to the development of the university on the journey to carry out the mission of “Bringing opportunities quality learning for the community”. From partnerships with Canadian institutions, the university has developed many capacity-building and experience-sharing programs and community-oriented activities from the foundation of the Vietnam Community College model. – Canada. Tra Vinh University has become a key supplier of highly skilled human resources for Tra Vinh province, the Mekong Delta, and the whole country.
The delegation also listened to reports on the effectiveness and sustainability of the success of the Vietnam – Canada Community College Project, training within the framework of the Co-op model, innovative startup activities, gender equality issues as well as the university’s responsibility to support the community through projects to support women and children in the provincial socio-economic, cultural and social development. In addition, TVU proposes to implement activities for the sustainable development plan of Tra Vinh University and VACC’s member schools based on promoting the achievements that Vietnam – Canada Community Community Project has achieved along with the support of the Canadian Embassy in Vietnam, partners of Canadian institutes, and schools in the coming time.
Mr. Shawn Steil affirmed: “The success of Vietnam – Canada Community College Project is a testament to the friendship between the governments and peoples of the two countries, creating meaningful changes for Tra Vinh people and Tra Vinh University. We are proud that Tra Vinh University is currently the President of the Vietnam Association of Community Colleges (VACC), these achievements contribute to the development of the province and tighten the friendship between the two countries. While visiting TVU, I see the soaring development of the university, with more and more students studying and researching at a university with many Canadian elements. I hope that this success is the premise for us to have more cooperation in the future.”

“In 2023, Vietnam – Canada will celebrate 50 years of establishing diplomatic relations (1973-2023). Tra Vinh University is hosting the Vietnam – Canada International Education and Cooperation Conference in 2023. The conference is an opportunity for Canadian and Vietnamese organizations to build and deepen relationships towards identifying new cooperation opportunities between Canada and Vietnam, focusing on cooperation opportunities in the field of higher education and training, proposing possible cooperation directions in the future such as: developing joint training programs on sustainable development, mitigation, and adaptation to climate change, exchange of scholars and students, issues of gender equality, technology development and digitalization,…” Dr. Nguyễn Minh Hòa, Rector of Tra Vinh University said.
Tra Vinh University was formed and developed from Tra Vinh Community College. After 5 years of successful implementation of the Vietnam – Canada Community College Project co-funded by the Government of Canada and the Government of Vietnam, along with the urgent need for education and training development, and the high demand for human resources to implement the economic, cultural and social development strategy of Tra Vinh province, the Mekong Delta region and the whole country, Tra Vinh University was officially established under the Decision 141 /QD/2006-TTg dated June 19, 2006, of the Prime Minister, and became one of the PUBLIC universities in the higher education system of Vietnam. The university is a member of the international association of universities, Canadian colleges and a member of the CDIO organization, Top 200 in the world’s sustainable development universities according to UI GreenMetric Ranking, Top 100 universities with positive influence and contribution to society – according to WURI Ranking.
